Drag x Drive is an upcoming game for Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console. It was one of the most surprising titles revealed in the console’s lineup, with little known about it aside from the wheelchair-based basketball using mouse controls. Now, Nintendo has released a special gameplay trailer that dives into the inner workings of this sports-based outing ahead of its August 14 launch.

The robust trailer provides over 7 minutes worth of information on Drag x Drive (by the way, it’s pronounced Drag ā€œandā€ Drive, according to the trailer). Highlights include how the controls work, tricks, and even what happens outside of the main arena.

One of our biggest questions about the game on the Pure Nintendo Podcast was the kinds of modes we could expect aside from 3-on-3 matches. It’s now been revealed that players can partake in minigames between matches, which could add some exciting variety to proceedings. Apart from online play, there’s also a training mode, and the ability to play against bots.

Here’s the official list of features from Nintendo:

  • Hop into onlineĀ lobbies for matches with players from near and far. Once 6 players join, a game will automatically start! Up to 12 people can join a Public Park.
  • You can also get a group of friends together (with or without GameChat) to play in Friend Parks, which are private parks where you can pick and choose what you’d like to do. Make use of two courts for games and play matches with up to 6 players in one court. You can also compete against each other in additional challenges to try and earn the top spot on your park’s leaderboard!
  • Offline, you can also play alone against computer-controlled opponents to hone your skills.
  • Choose from a selection of three different drivers to suit your preferred play style: Guard, Center or Forward. Each driver has their own stats, so be sure to find the one that complements your game.
  • Looking for a change of pace? Hop off the court and race around a track in the Circuit Sprint minigame, compete in shooting contests or Park-wide minigames like Rebound Scramble, jump rope to practice bunny hopping and more.
  • Complete challenges to earn in-game trophies and unlock customizable helmets, which you can use to personalize your driver’s appearance. Match them up with your choice of armor, frames and tires, customize colors and add your preferred number to complete your look!

We like the sounds of these features; what do you think? Will this new IP be a sleeper hit for Nintendo? Time will tell. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the trailer.

Oh, and if you’re keen to get started before the release date, a Global Jam is set to give players a sneak peak from August 9-10. During these sessions, you can download the demo and shoot hoops with your friends in the leadup to the full release:

  • August 9, from 3 am to 7 am PT
  • August 9, from 5 pm to 9 pm PT
  • August 10, from 9 am to 1 pm PT

Let’s hope it’s a slam dunk when Drag x Drive hits the Switch on August 14.
