Games may come in where the concept makes you smile, and Lord Winklebottom Investigates is no exception. This is mysterious Whodunit Mix with traditional ones Point and click adventureThe world is full of anthropomorphic animals with traditional British accents. Oh, the protagonist happens to sound sick and makes the doctor feel a little embarrassed. As far as I am concerned, all the major tick marks in the box on the right. And most of the time, Lord Winklebottom Investigates meet those expectations, but it can get bogged down in the run.

The premise is that you are the prestigious Sir Winklebottom, a world-renowned investigator who is also a giraffe. You and your trusted hippo partner, Dr. Frumple, are renowned for solving mysterious cases. A friend of his old school, Gilfree, sent me a message to come to his island and make a big announcement. After getting there, you realize that the poor Gilfrey has been murdered and vow to reach the root of what happened. Now the invited guests and the staff of the condominium are all suspects, and it’s up to you to connect the mysteries.

Sir Winklebottom investigates | Mystery unravels

The main gameplay in that case is a combination of whodunit puzzle-solving and the unnatural item manipulation of traditional point-and-click adventure bread and butter. Chat with guests to find out what happened and notes about all the characters you’re interested in are automatically captured in a handy notebook that you can refer to at any time. Then pick up and manipulate items and environments, explore your mansion further, and develop options for interacting with your character to further uncover secrets that can help you unravel the mystery.

In this sense, Sir Winklebottom’s investigation begins very powerfully, from prologue puzzles before arriving on the island to initial exploration and puzzle solving in the mansion itself. Falling into the familiar point-and-click rhythm, the items you manipulate tend to have the immediate purpose of solving puzzles. It’s all satisfying and the right side of the challenge without being overwhelmed or frustrated.

The problem that some people may have (and certainly did until they understood what was happening) was how LordWinklebottomInvestigates did some puzzles in the middle or later of the game. Do you handle it? Due to the limited space in the mansion, you’ll see what you’ll need later in the game from the beginning. The change here is that Winklebottom won’t do that until you understand why you need to go through the story and pick up the item, rather than letting it pick up an item that you’ll keep holding for a long time. But strangely, there are some items he will pick up right away, even if you don’t know why you still need them.

Unique logic

What this really means can be thought of as exploring everywhere in search of a solution and interacting with everything, but what you really need to do is go back to what you may have already interacted with. But now it turns out to be worth gratitude for conversations and observations, and you’ll pick it up now. In addition, in general, you can manipulate or see an item or point of interest, and in some cases running one on behalf of the other advances the “logic” that allows you to get a new item. It will be a trigger. So you need to rewire your brain a bit to see how traditional point-and-click works.

Point-and-click puzzles are, thankfully, categorized into smarter buckets rather than weird sparse logic. In many cases, the process is relatively clear and the solution often makes sense. This makes the game feel more fun than frustrating. Often the blockers I encountered weren’t triggering logic, but I generally knew what the game wanted to do with the puzzles. There are hint systems, but they are more general than concrete, and they tell you the next important puzzle to solve, not the small steps that can lead to it, so your brain still needs to overcome it. I have.

The whodunit aspect is probably more passive than people would expect. It doesn’t just provide a major point-and-click adventure story. For example, automatic note-taking will check if a character is still a suspect based on your interactions, not based on your opinions or decisions. Sir Winklebottom Investigates has a story to tell, and we need to maintain the structure for it, so that’s okay.Don’t expect to be hired Poirot Play your part in solving the mystery of murder.

Attractive setting

Sir Winklebottom investigates a double-down on the animal world and the stereotyped accents and metaphors of the character. He is not afraid to laugh at himself or enjoy the genres the game employs. Interactions and conversations are successful, as is the voice acting that provides them. It’s harmless and ridiculous, but I enjoyed listening so much that I didn’t want to skip the conversation. Even if my hippo buddies didn’t slip it, I made a mistake in his tea at the beginning of the game.

Control is another interesting point. The console works very well with PC controls in mind, as you use the control sticks to move cursors on the screen to manipulate people, items, and landscapes. Accessibility because the ability to use the four-way controller to select conversation choices, manipulate items, and view items can often be annoying by selecting the cursor and overshooting options. Will improve. There is also no cursor sensitivity option to tweak to prevent this. The good news for those looking for a Switch version is that touchscreen controls work, allowing for more accurate selections not available in other console versions. Such players may get more fun with handhelds than docking.

Sir Winklebottom investigates how it looks, sounds, and even plays like a unique game. The world and humor are great attractions, and the puzzle itself makes sense and is not insensitive. You need to understand how to handle logic progression to avoid frustration, which makes the game a fun point-and-click experience rich in charm, humor, and style.
