Following the world premiere, we take you even deeper into the brutal world of Meet Your Maker.
Let’s start with a quick recap of the game itself coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in 2023.
Meet Your Maker is a new first-person building and raiding game set in a dark post-apocalyptic future. Gameplay revolves around creating and infiltrating standalone levels called Outposts as players attempt to protect or steal the world’s most precious remaining resources from each other.
Construction focuses on strategic block-based design, with players drawing from a highly customizable toolbox of traps and guards to mastermind deadly maze-like outposts. Raiders, on the other hand, are better suited for methodical, lightning-fast combat as they enlist and try to overcome other players’ creations.
The experience is truly driven by user-generated content, and every outpost in the game is designed by players, for players.
Meet Your Maker’s unique gameplay, like Behavior’s long-running multiplayer horror hit Dead by Daylight, plays a deceptively central role, but there’s a wealth of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. There are also myths.
Welcome to the Chimera Project
Communicate with Chimera through your own psychic bond.
“Humanity has been on the verge of extinction since genetic diseases swept the world hundreds of years ago,” explains Joe Dermo, lead narrative designer at Meet Your Maker. “Desperate nations fought wars over resources, riots broke out, and societies collapsed. But humanity did not overthrow and perish.
“There was a time when some talented world leaders proposed Sanctuaries, advanced laboratories around the world that could work independently and collaboratively on initiatives to save the world. One such initiative was the Chimera Project, which creates hybrid humans by distilling uncorrupted genetic material from people who have shown resistance to disease.
“Hundreds of years later, the project is on track to reach its goal, but Chimera’s evolution has taken an unexpected trajectory…”.
keep what’s yours and do what you can
Harvesters load genetic material into shipping stations for transport to the Sanctuary.
Players assume the role of Custodians, clones tasked with seeking out the remaining uncorrupted genetic material and defending or stealing it. You’re the last hope to complete the Chimera project, but gathering this coveted resource isn’t easy.
“Unbroken genetic material is extremely rare because of this disease that has taken the world by storm, but it is the only thing we need to complete the Chimera project and hopefully bring in a cure,” continues Joe. “As the supply dwindled, the Chimera-led Sanctuary began fighting over it.”
The battle in question takes place inside an outpost built by the player to extract genetic material. At the heart of each outpost is an extractor his cube, which fills canisters with valuable resources.
Builders must use their most evil impulses to create gauntlets of traps and gigantic guards designed to lure, outwit, and tear intruders out of their limbs. A raider needs sharp reflexes, anticipation, and patience, and the extractor can not only fight his way to his cube and steal its canister, but also run away with it.
“The lack of genetic material drives two aspects of the Meet Your Maker game,” says Ash Pannell, the game’s creative director. “Making the components of life into a driving narrative concept helps raise stakes. Anything more?”
in good company
Speak with one of Sanctuary’s five advisors, the only ally in the unforgiving world.
In between construction and raids, players return to their stronghold and base of operations, Sanctuary. In addition to the Chimera, the Sanctuary also houses five Advisors. A clone that runs the facility.
Progress is achieved by supplying both them and the Chimera with genetic material that unlocks new traps, guards, suits, weapons, perks, and even lore for those wishing to peel back the layers of this dying world. will be
“Talking to an advisor is a great way to learn about the lore of the world,” Joe explains. “Sometimes they touch on the larger history and mention something that hints at the story to come. There is a history of all the items and characters in .
With new content and an ever-expanding toolbox, this is a game that will grow over time, and fans can be confident that its mythology will continue to grow with it.
“While much is still in the planning stages, we are looking at ways players can actively seek out lore and discover new and sometimes shocking information about the worlds and characters they interact with.”
