Cryptic Quatrains is the sort of treasure hunt you’d expect from Destiny 2’s season of pirate-themed looting. (opens in new tab)Effective messages in jars, these quests require you to unravel a number of riddles to find the location of buried loot. Completing them will reward you with some map fragments, seasonal armor, and, strangely enough, coarse-grained cipher fragments.

These fragments can be found in the Captain’s Atlas with potential treasure maps. If you collect both fragments and complete Quatrains, you will receive an exotic sparrow for trouble called the Charge of Light. The only problem is that due to rank requirements, unlocking all three Quatrains will require spending a significant amount of time. Here are the steps for the quest and the location of the treasure.

Destiny 2 Cryptic Quatrains: How to unlock

To access the first Cryptic Quatrain quest, you need to reach rank 7 on the HELM star map. To do this, complete bounties and Ketchcrash or Expedition activities. As your rank increases, you can get small treasure beacons. This starts the first inexplicable quatrain. Note: To collect all three, you need to reach Rank 16. Complete the individual Quatrain quests if you want that sparrow. Luckily, each quest follows a somewhat similar structure of visiting destinations, completing Lost Sectors, striking, and finding dig sites.

Here’s what you need to do for each individual quest step in Cryptic Quatrain 1:

  • go to the moon
  • Complete K1 Revelation Lost Sector in Sorrow’s Harbor
  • Complete a Fallen SABER Strike in the Cosmodrome
  • Head to the Crane in the Evening Ruins of Europa to unearth the treasure bearing the Fallen crest.

The treasure is very easy to find as it is on the ground near a platform hanging from the only crane in the area. This treasure will give you seasonal armor, 5 map fragments, and your first Crude Cipher Fragment.

Upon reaching Rank 10, you will receive the Medium Treasure Beacon from the Star Chart. Here are the steps:

  • heading to the dreaming city
  • Complete the Bay of Drowned Wish Lost Sector in Divarian Mist
  • Complete the Lake of Shadows strike in the EDZ
  • Complete an expedition with a sword equipped
  • Head to the triangular entrance to the Well of Flame in The Cistern on Nessus. Examine the Fallen Crest just inside the entrance.
  • Go to the area north of the Fountain of Fire where the Cabal public event takes place and look for the treasure trove near the sphere

This will give you a Seasonal Weapon, a Map Fragment, and a second Crude Cipher Fragment.

The Large Treasure Beacon unlocks at Rank 16 on the Star Map. Here are the quest steps:

  • heading to the EDZ
  • Complete the Lost Sector of the Quarry on The Sunken Isles
  • Complete an Exodus Crash strike on Nessus without dying
  • Complete Ketch Crush with Ark Subclass and Arc Hand Cannon equipped
  • Equip the completed Crude Cypher to Captain’s Atlas
  • From left to right: House of Twilight, House of Salvation, House of Light
  • Go to the Cosmodrome’s Forgotten Shore and head to the ship in the south of the area by the Labyrinth Lost Sector of Veles.
  • Head to the northern end of Forgotten Coast and find the treasure trove in the cave by the Three Pillars just below where Navota’s attack begins

This will give you some weapons, the Charge of Light Sparrow, and complete the win for that season. This is a bit more complicated, but this tutorial reddi41 It explains everything you need to know if you’re looking for exact step-by-step.
