Last week, we reported on fan speculation that Shiver, a member of Splatoon 3’s band Deep Cut and one of three new announcers for the game, could become Nintendo’s first major non-binary character. Did. Compelling evidence from the recent Splatoon 3 Direct suggests that gender-specific language was deliberately avoided in multiple localized versions of the upcoming game’s trailers and clips.
Many fans were delighted to see this small but significant step forward for inclusivity and representation in first-party Nintendo games, and couldn’t believe it was a coincidence. Identified Shiver as female and made sure to use her/her pronouns in the game.
As reported by The Bargethis information was obtained through a conversation with Nate Birdolf, Senior Vice President of Development and Publishing at Nintendo. Game X plain We were also able to confirm to Nintendo of America that Civer identified as female during the game’s preview hours.
Some Splatoon fans are somehow unphased by this confirmation, but there are others that this may disappoint. I avoid it (it offers a variety of styles, not specific gender characters), but for one of the company’s most exciting – yes – freshest IPs, it felt like the perfect game. It brings a little more variety to the Nintendo world.
