2 years Story of Elite Dangerous This month also ended on a high note. In fact, Update 13 had two shocks for him. The first was the launch of a superweapon intended to destroy her Thargoid alien. His second impact, full of Thargoids, soon followed. No Destroyed and blasts its superweapon into the Space Blacksmith.
Displayed to the player via an in-game cinematic, these harrowing events bring Elite Dangerous into the next story arc, Aftermath. what happens next? How will the galaxy, its factions, and players react after a catastrophe?
I recently spoke with members of the Frontier Developments team about the future of Elite Dangerous and what Update 14 means for long-running simulations of the Milky Way Galaxy. Naturally, they prefer to let the story unfold for the players instead of telling me all the details straight (damn), but the ongoing alien threat and the threat they themselves I’ve dropped a few hints about what I’m feeling.
“As we move toward Update 14 and its aftermath, the Thargoid threat is greater than Commander has ever seen,” said Senior Producer Samantha Marsh. “I think everyone can understand bad things are going on. But the aftermath just keeps kicking it into higher and higher gear. I’m really excited to see exactly. [how] everyone will deal with it.
“And it’s safe to say that no galaxy is the same,” she added.
The in-game cinematics that ended the Azimuth Saga were a new way to share stories with players, but they won’t be the only tools Frontier Developments will use as the events of Aftermath are gradually revealed.
“There’s an elite part that’s exploratory storytelling, and there’s also people that are sort of revealing the story elements and piecing them together,” Marsh said. I love seeing them, and I think it’s really cool to see what they’ve found.”
“yes, [we] We love having little mysteries in our games that players can solve,” said lead game designer Luke Betterton. So to allow people to piece together what that story is about when we’re not being candid, to help players understand those theories, all the cogs Spinning around and trying to figure out exactly what’s going on here. What comes next? It’s my great pleasure. ”
Speaking of threats, there’s something new when it comes to Elite Dangerous, but it’s not an alien variety. It is right here on Earth. We asked developers whether the new discoveries that astronomers, or real-world astronomers, make about our galaxy would affect Elite Dangerous’s simulated Milky Way galaxy.
“If you’re asking if the James Webb Telescope is terrifying for the future of Elite Dangerous, yes, it is,” Betterton said with a laugh. , it will be a challenge.”
“We’re not going to overhaul the entire galaxy when there’s a lot of different new discoveries, but it certainly influences what we do,” Marsh said. I can give you an example, I think it was the galaxy, I can’t remember what exactly, I actually went and renamed it myself to match the new name from NASA.”
“I think that’s also what makes Elite so interesting. [an] It’s an evolving, living game,” continued Marsh.
