Ulf Andersson was the designer of both Payday games before becoming CEO and creative director of 10 Chambers, so he knows a few things about cooperative heists. 10 Chambers continued the theme of cooperation with hardcore horror shooter GTFO, which released version 1.0 in December, but GTFO features a Payday game-like “Robert De Niro tries to orchestrate the perfect crime and everything goes wrong.” There was no atmosphere. 10 Chambers’ next release sounds like it.
in an interview with NME (opens in new tab), Anderson described the studio’s next game as follows: , and imagine all things cyberpunk inspired.
Unlike Payday games defined by the moments when an alarm goes off, you end up shooting out of a bank, and rampaging down the streets with a sports bag full of loot, 10 Chambers is a game where the next game is the next game. We want to do less damage to the eardrum. “This is not constant shooting,” said Anderson. “Payday had a big problem with increased action and then continued to increase.”
Also, it’s not as extreme in terms of difficulty as GTFO, which required stealth and team play, and lacked checkpoints. Or, as Anderson summed up GTFO, “You can sneak dead for at least an hour, right?” His next project, he said, would be a little more forgiving. “So there’s nothing hardcore about it. It’s more mechanically smooth, and I would say it’s easier to play.”
10 Chambers Heist FPS has no name or release date yet. Andersson said:
Last we heard, Payday 3, still in development at Overkill Software, will use the Unreal Engine, bring the original game’s cast to New York, and modern surveillance tech and gadgets will complicate the heist. It’s quite possible that one level is cryptocurrency themed. Scheduled for release in 2023.
