In God of War Ragnarok, the relationship between Kratos and Atreus is central to defining our story. They are our central family, but there are many other families across the Nine Realms that mark how events play out towards Ragnarok.
We are very excited to announce a new collaborative partnership in which five extremely talented artists will capture the most important relationships in the story in the unique style of the God of War Ragnarok family portrait series.

Drew Merritt – Bears and Wolves
Drew Merritt is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, California. His style, which spans a variety of mediums, blends classical realism that captures the emotional nuances of his subjects.
For his work, Drew portrayed the heroes of our story, Kratos and Atreus – focusing on the central family of Ragnarok, the god of war.

Emma Rios – Dwarf
Emma Ríos is a Spanish comic artist and illustrator who won the 2020 Eisner Award for her cover art and has worked with many heavy hitters in the comics industry. Her style organically blends environments and subjects into fluid compositions with a whimsical and colorful quality.
Emma’s work focuses on the Haldra brothers Brok and Sindri and the two dwarves they meet on their journey through the God of War Ragnarök.

Romina Tempest – Hero of Midgard
Romina Tempest is an illustrator and character designer and it was a pleasure to work with her. B is for boys, Illustrated retelling of the events of God of War (2018). Her cartoon style captures the mind and facial expressions of her subjects in dynamic backdrops to create scenes that draw you into the moment of the scene.
Romina’s creations feature the found families gathered by Kratos and Atreus as they travel through the nine Realms.
“I’ve been playing God of War ever since it first came out on the PlayStation in the early 2000s. It was a combination of the hack-and-slash genre (my absolute favorite genre at the time, thanks to games like Devil May Cry).
What really struck me at the time was the scale of everything from the often physically gigantic and fantastical creatures to the plots and orchestral scores.

Jay Lee – mother and son
Jae Lee is a legendary comic artist who has won awards for his work with many of the biggest names in comics. His style captures movement, light, and emotional depth in high-contrast portraits, lending to his expertise in deftly conveying the headspace of the most complex characters.
Jae captures a mother’s grief and vengeance in a portrait of Freya and her late son Baldur.

Sui Ishida – The Aesir
Sui Ishida is a manga artist who made a big hit with the Tokyo Ghoul series. His stylistic approach blends traditional cartoon elements with a pictorial aesthetic. His use of color brings a soft, almost dreamlike quality to his portrait work.
Ishida’s work focuses on the Asir, the most powerful families of the Nine Worlds, led by Odin, the All-Father.
