It’s amazing how harmful some bad choices can be. The airport for aliens, now run by Dogs, has some really great comedy and a fun, zany soundtrack and sound effects. However, the repetitive fetch quest’s extreme lack of polish in gameplay and design greatly hinders the experience. And then there’s the price….
In our first person journey, we meet our fiancée at multiple airports run by jpeg dogs. I have to say, I really like the idea. It feels like too few games these days can come up with such a strangely compelling premise: navigating and flying through an alien’s airport, and for both progression and side quests he’s a jpeg and You have to collect so many items that need to be exchanged.
Unfortunately, the design of the airport itself is terrible. The game itself is as good as any Steam or mobile game, with a very similar airport design. Shops offering items are scattered in a disorganized mess, and the layout tends to be tedious to navigate. Defects make things worse.
For example, the “A” button is mapped to drop items, but (as always) is also a way to select items in a menu. The game often dropped items with an ‘A’ even in menus, so I had to constantly keep track of items dropped by members as they exited them. Also, do not stand on top of the store. Your movement slows down (think the game thinks you’re falling?), eternally walk away from them. I also had a few softlocks and had to reload my save.
Thankfully, the writing keeps the experience from becoming a complete loss. The JPEGs you come across are full of weird and charming things, and humor often landed. When I first talked to him, I thought “The Dog in the Cabinet” was hilarious, but on the fifth or so revisit with the same line, his charm was lost.
I want to give that sound a special shoutout. The more I played, the more I enjoyed the wonderfully weird songs. I liked that many of the sound effects were done vocally (e.g. a man’s voice sounds like “ch-khht” when taking a picture). It has a strong homestar runner feel to it, and for me, who likes H*R, it really resonated with me.
Overall, the game has a great concept and lands on the writing and sound, but is held back heavily by repetitive gameplay and a terrible airport. increase. They’re asking $19.99 for this! There are some fun things to do here, heavy Sale.
