Oiler’s prospects came today to sweep against Kanak’s prospects and it was mission accomplished. Ryan Fanti finished the game early. Final. The Oilers took control and won the game 5-2.
We got the chance to see the game live as opposed to the usual video review. Below are notes from notable players. Not all players are mentioned, but that shouldn’t be taken negatively. Simply put, his game did not stand out at all.

Who got your attention?
Dylan Holloway
foam. rinse. repeat. best player of the game. Best player of the tournament. Showing incredible edge control and explosive steps to the net, he may have scored the tournament goal. Also snapped a backhand off the post, plus he had two high dangerous chances. If there’s a template players need to seize the day, Holloway has done it here. to main camp.
James Hamblin
Hamblin was offensively quiet today, but to me, today’s game is what got him an NHL game. He was good on defense and did an excellent job supporting the defense and helping win and eject the puck. His skating is definitely an asset at this level and it seems like enough for the NHL. Especially in the second period, he played a lot of time on penalties. he did very well.
Reed Schaefer
In my eyes, he was close to being the third best forward young prospect of the day. His linemates were Engaras and Kanbates, both of whom were more defensive, so I gave him a nod. Schaefer still struggles with lateral mobility. but. Today his hands were very noticeable in creating chances for himself and his teammates. He showed his wicked wrist shot scoring from the high slot today. The exciting part about his shots is that they seem capable of firing accurately and powerfully through very narrow windows. He is active in 2PP and some PKs.
Jake Chiasson
He put in his best game of the tournament and equaled Reed Schaefer in this game. He has a tall motor and a good stick. He was especially good offensively in his zone where he created three turnovers and created excellent scoring chances in all three. For him, returning to the junior pack will be an opportunity to hone his possession skills and shooting his releases. His skating has improved noticeably, but more edgework would be a plus.Chiasson performed well today, playing a healthy amount of two penalties.
Noah Phillip
Quiet game today. I thought the speed of the Canucks team caused him some problems. Nevertheless, he was a very smart player and was able to adapt and overcome.
Philip Englas
He had a slow start to the tournament, but today was a very good game for him. I had an assistant today. He needs to work on the explosiveness of his skating and he needs to score. Still he’s on his way to a 6th round pick. Don’t fight anymore, Philip.
Xavier Burgaud
Quiet game today. His three matches in four days against faster and stronger players could have made an impact. This is certainly some of the most physical hockey he’s played. Still managed to get 125 feet of empty net and was very clean in his own zone.
Matvey Petrov
Watching Petrov jam today, he was rewarded with a turnover for his teammate. A video of this is what he should watch on loop. It’s clear he has the skills needed to score. Now he has to confidently tackle playing inside and on the wall. Watching him skate this weekend gave me a lot of confidence that it wouldn’t be a problem.
Maximus Wanner
Perhaps feeling confident, Wanner was a little loose with the pack today. He made some dangerous exits that coaches would probably highlight. But most of the time, he easily exited the zone, slipping or passing the puck to apply pressure. Surprising given his size, he was beaten lower physically today. Out of 4 he could be due 3 days. This is a remarkable prospect. I wonder if I will be invited to the U20 national training camp, or if I will start early.
Philip Broberg
We were able to play consistently today. There are some more questionable decisions, but much more confidence in retrieves and exits. His body language made it clear that he wasn’t happy with his performance.
michael kesselring
It wasn’t his best performance, though he stood out more than other defenders not mentioned. I thought he was a little late in recognizing his options when he left the hospital today, but it cost him nothing, he played a quiet game offensively. He plays a lot of 2 and sometimes 1 penalties.
The Oilers exit prospect camp 3-0. To big boy time in Edmonton.
