A relatively quiet month for the Switch and series releases that skipped Nintendo consoles for a decade led to a slight drop in Nintendo sales in the US, according to the latest NPD Group sales survey.
Data is from July 31 to August 26 and is in dollars unless otherwise noted. Publishers may provide digital data, but Nintendo does not.
In hardware, the PlayStation 5 took top honors in both dollar and unit sales, beating out Switch, which held the unit sales crown for the past six months (February -> July). No specific sales numbers have been disclosed, but the Switch still leads the way in sales this year.
With no major retail releases for the Switch during this period, and only one first-party release (the $20 digital-only Kirby’s Dream Buffet), the top 20 software charts were dotted with catalog titles. In the first party, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe topped his Switch-enabled release at number six, while Xenoblade Chronicles 3 held on to tenth place after he finished fourth in his July report. Pokemon Legends Arceus 20th. Third parties are Minecraft (7th), LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (8th), MLB The Show 22 (9th), Digimon Survive (11th), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (19th) ) checked in. The top two sales overall were the annual Madden release and the 1 and 2 Saints Row reboots.

September’s five-week report includes the first notable US sales, including the TMNT Cowabunga Collection (August 30), NBA 2k23 and Splatoon 3 (September 9).
