After Sony shut down Wipeout developer Studio Liverpool in 2012, sci-fi racing games had their darkest days. to indie games like Redout and Redout, Ballistic NG I started filling in the gaps. There are a lot of these games now, but almost all of them take after Wipeout over F-Zero.
Then it looks like Aero GPX, F-ZERO.
This indie racer from developer Aaron McDevitt steam page Filled with charming gifs, clearly emulates Nintendo’s series of F-Zero X/GX games. The Aero GPX seems to focus specifically on the F-Zero’s aggressive side. In several ways, you’ll bump your ship into other racers to force them out of the run.
Aero GPX has a bright, bubbly, cel-shaded aesthetic, but it actually looks geeky as ships spin attack each other at 1,500 kilometers per hour. If you’ve ever tried to beat F-Zero GX’s notoriously difficult story mode, or Grand Prix on higher difficulties, the action here may bring back some painful memories.As expected, that game i wasn’t messing aroundBut no racing game with tracks as relentlessly twisty as F-Zero has been as fast and brutal since then.
