I played Last Call BBS a while ago. This puzzle anthology included a mini-game to build a model robot kit. I used a tool to cut the robot kit out of the plastic sprue, then spliced ââit up, painted it, and even put some stickers on it. It’s the same tactile sensation you get when you’re watching the Retro Gadgets release trailer. This is the upcoming game that lets you create your own video game handheld, calculator, digital pet, or chiptune starter kit.

I’m not much of a maker myself, so I leave things like creating an all-in-one emulation box for playing classic console games with a Raspberry Pi to others. But there is a definite appeal to pretending to be someone who owns a soldering iron and wields it like a pro. Turning that fantasy into a game is like what PC Building Simulator does. Moreover, it removes the element of risk. You can also use Retro Gadgets to plan your build before you actually proceed with the build.
Retro Gadgets is being developed by Licorice ehf and Studio Evil and plans to release in Early Access, “ideally for about a year, but this is subject to change”.
