On February 22, an enhanced version of Pistol Whip reappeared on PlayStation VR2. Enhanced with exclusive haptic feedback, this day one title defines how physical action-rhythm games can be.
PS VR2 users will benefit from internal upgrades such as SSD optimizations for faster load times and scene transitions. Today’s focus, however, is on Pistol Whip’s iconic gameplay, now more immersive than ever thanks to haptic feedback.
A reimagined PlayStation VR2 sense controller with finger touch detection and a 6-axis motion sensing system creates a more realistic firing experience. Discover unique reload SFX for various weapons and resistance changes, including dry fire haptics. Additionally, three types of melee SFX provide different sensations when pistol-whipping different enemies.
“When implementing adaptive triggers, we found several ways to provide controller feedback,” explains Mike L., PS VR2 Lead Haptics Engineer. “Now the player will feel more resistance when pulling the trigger, and will flatten out just before the weapon pulls far enough to fire, at which point there will be zero resistance.”
The PS VR2 headset’s native vibration works in tandem with controller feedback and 3D audio to react to in-game shocks and near-misses. By dynamically adjusting the position of the sound, players can hear and feel bullets grazing their heads.
With a roadmap hinting at plenty of new Pistol Whip content coming this year, lucky PlayStation VR2 users can download this shiny new edition soon. Just in time to practice for upcoming releases.
