“We’re still working on MechWarrior, and I’m a little surprised that we’ve been working on it for this long, which is great,” said Bullock. “Of course, we all know that DLC 4 for MechWarrior 5 is coming.
“And there is another MechWarrior game in development at Piranha. (opens in new tab)online [which entered open beta in 2012 before releasing in 2013], think of it as a standalone game, a standalone product, in line with MechWarrior 5, not online PvP. “
Bullock said the new game will be released for PC and consoles and will follow a “more single-player co-op path.” However, there’s no indication as to what era the game will be set in or which faction it’ll focus on, with Block warning that it may not be officially revealed until this fall. Bullock also said in an interview with NGNG that he would be interested in following up on MechWarrior Online, but said it faces additional challenges, such as the need to extend its license: Piranha is currently running until 2025. MechWarrior license rights but full MWO2 “more runways”.
“We’re not going to make MechWarrior Online 2 if the license could expire in 2025,” Bullock said. Therefore, it should probably be extended to 2030.”
Block confirmed in an email sent to PC Gamer that the new single-player MechWarrior game is targeting a 2024 release. His fourth DLC for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is Rise of Rasalhague (opens in new tab)will be released on January 26th.
