The Scarlet Deer Inn at the top is often reminiscent of Pentiment, a side-scrolling exploration of a peaceful, sunny village, but in this game, rather than illuminated manuscripts, its art style includes traditional handicrafts. Goods are taken in.

Under the town, Elise must rely on her flashlight to find her way and solve puzzles, but the underworld looks far more extensive than I originally imagined. What particularly struck me was the platform set-piece where Elise had to climb over sharp spikes above and below her. It’s like something out of Hollow Knight. I was also struck by the scene halfway through the trailer when Elise encounters a cavernous vault lit by thousands of candles.
