Should wrestling fans go All In or do they still need Switch Wrestling Revolution?
The All Elite Wrestling Promotion has had many ties to video games since it officially launched in 2019. Of its four main wrestlers, one wears the Triforce in his wrestling boots and cites Ocarina of Time in promotions, the other does the trademark move “V-Trigger”. and the one-winged angel, the two are often matched in comparison to video games. His second event in the company’s history coincided with his CEO Fighting Game Tournament in 2019. So it’s no surprise that they worked long enough to make sure the game’s debut in the ring was “proper”, leaving development to Yukes (who was formerly the developer of the WWE game). and had previously encouraged the studio to sign former talent known as Aki.Their first results were indeed Le Champion As far as wrestling games on Switch go, is that enough to make it a five-star classic for the platform?
The game’s default roster consists of about 45 players and includes many company celebrities (John “Dean Ambrose” Moxley, Chris Jericho, Dr. Britt Baker, etc.). But there’s a lot of talent here that has come out of the company over the past year or so that doesn’t show up on the shipping roster or in his DLC for the game. (There are separate packs of two forms of Matt Freaking Hardy, and this pass will see six wrestlers, including Ace Tag Team FTR and one of their future stars, “Hook”, over the next few months. Drop it.) I would love to set up a match. Popular tag team ‘The Acclaimed’, or now Blackpool, he builds a combat club, half of which is inaccessible by default. The female roster is also somewhat sparse. At the time of the game’s release, the company’s last two women’s world champions (Jamie Hayter and Tony Storm) are not on the shipping roster.
The custom wrestler option helps mitigate some of the roster’s shortcomings, but if the game is as heavy online as it used to be, it would have been nice to have the option to download the edit. After figuring out some of the oddities with the setting, such as having to select a face to get the option to change the skin color of the selected wrestler, it’s a wacky one based on an old John Bore column. Assembling a custom wrestler was easy.
At this point, it’s been nearly 20 years since I’ve played an AKI wrestling match, but apart from one-off things like switching focus in a multi-player match, I’m pretty much out of control in a few matches. I was resting and grappling. The game works with a “strike or grapple” system similar to that seen in No Mercy, with “weak” and “strong” grapples that unlock moves that deal varying levels of damage, but There are dedicated counter buttons for striking and grappling as before. Later he was also seen in the WWE series, which also added dedicated punch and kick buttons. It was actually with the creator that the problem arose, specifically when he decided on BEFTANK’s “finishing maneuvers.” There was no option to filter moves to only certain types, so moves from the top rope were mixed with moves I wanted to use as strikes and matchenders. Before you ask why it matters, the wrestler in question is 5’2″ tall and weighs 400 pounds. He should go top rope… never.
Once you’ve mastered the controls and built your wrestler, the main way to build your stats is in the story mode of the game called ‘Road To Elite’. It’s a branching storyline with bizarre dialogue choices that take you down a particular path depending on whether you choose to be the good guy or the bad guy, at least not the path BEEFTANK took. , I ended up watching most of the specialized matches in this game. It started with a “Casino Battle Royale”, then played a few tag team matches, but somehow ended up in a “Lights Out” (no disqualification) match and an Explosive Barbed Wire Deathmatch. It’s set in terms of an internal “year,” but it’s actually not as long as it seems, as pay-per-view or “premium” events only run quarterly. You’ve traveled across North America (or the US and Toronto, no, I’m not bitter about this, why are you asking), and have your stamina/game momentum ready for the company’s weekly “Dynamite”? /has an option to run a task to build statistics. TV show. Ultimately, it will unlock the option to attend a match between the now-canceled YouTube show AEW Dark and the company’s current ‘C-show’, Rampage. Perhaps the follow-up will include a newly launched collision show. He continued this with some sort of story for three weeks before an “explosion” of stories occurred on pay-per-view and the cycle repeated until it reached the Memorial Day weekend show “Double or Nothing”. will be Each match earns ‘Skill Points’ and ‘AEW Cash’ to buff each created character, unlock new tools for crafting, and several bonus playable characters (the only referee in the game). Aubrey Edwards, who is a co-founder of the company, and Cody, who is a co-founder of the company). Rose left the promotion in early 2022 to return to World Wrestling Entertainment, and his last appearance in the ring was at Utestolmania XXXIX with rubber his chicken. ) His one of the most fun parts of the mode was the video clip with company footage. History for additional context – I’m talking about the formation of the stable “Death Triangle”, former champion CM Punk’s famous August 2021 debut on the live edition of Rampage, and the original from March 2021. No exploding barbed wire deathmatch could be seen.

For some reason, the game includes a series of mini-games that don’t feel out of place in Mario Party, and are also an option to spend your time on Road to Elite. These include a “tip drop” game, a memory game, and a trivia quiz about company history. DLC also includes new games. The game of dropping chips is a bit over the top, with bombs taking up nearly 90% of the ring at one point, but if you’ve already got full stats in Road to Elite and want to get some, there’s more to come. The game is a basic waste of time. Extra cash or skills. Points and cash can also be earned by completing various daily and weekly challenges. This usually involves winning a match with a specific difficulty or a specific wrestler.
Common challenges involve using the game’s online mode. Netcode worked well enough when I tried it, but when I enabled Airplane Mode to see if I could play offline, the Switch always asked me to turn Airplane Mode off. It does, but it gets a little messy. One of the major technical issues that seems to exist only on the Switch, unfortunately we were not able to see it occur on other hardware. It was a constant frameskip. As an example, let’s say you throw a haystack punch at BEEFTANK. The animation clearly jumps forward in the middle of the swing from the arms at the sides. This was especially common in his three-on-three matches and tag team matches, basically when he had more than three people in the ring at a time (two wrestlers and Aubrey). Loading wasn’t too bad when I played docked, but it got a little more frequent when I played handheld. There was also the odd instance where a line by Hall of Fame commentator Jim Ross didn’t match the subtitles, but Ross was known among AEW fans to “fall 1 mph on his fastball” due to his age. I don’t know if it’s a problem with the game or if it needs a new commentator soon.

There is no question in my mind that AEW’s game debut is the best wrestling game released on Nintendo consoles in over a decade. But as a multiplatform game, the Switch clearly struggles to handle it. This is odd as his THQ Nordic port on Switch tends to perform on par with its counterparts on other consoles. Hopefully this isn’t an annual release and we get some post-release support to sort things out. Because at this time, we have not achieved our pre-release goal of becoming a WWF No Mercy Killer. This is more of a WCW/nWo World Tour. A good first effort that has the potential to become a classic, but needs a little more work.
