Let’s praise the sun because the entire Dark Souls trilogy is finally back online. After being disabled for over nine months, FromSoftware has finally re-enabled Dark Souls Remastered’s online functionality.
The game, along with Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3, had their PvP servers shut down on PC in January. This was due to a critical security vulnerability discovered in Dark Souls 3 that could allow the execution of highly malicious code via online features. When FromSoftware finally announced that the servers would be “gradually” returning from the third game in the trilogy, it took a full four months to hear more news.
Three months later, Dark Souls 3 is finally back. At the time, FromSoftware said it was working to “restore these features in all other Dark Souls titles.” Unfortunately, when Dark Souls 2 returned in October, the developers revealed that one original Dark Souls game would be left behind. system” and was quickly removed from FromSoftware’s to-do list.

Dark Souls: Remastered is now complete, completing the developer’s nine-month journey of fixing security vulnerabilities and bringing the game back to life. FromSoftware kept their final victory very brief, tweeting: “Thank you again for your patience, understanding and support.”
It’s wild that nearly the entirety of 2022 has been spent restoring 3 of the 4 deactivated games. But at least Dark Souls players are free to infiltrate, summon, and piece together cheeky (and sometimes very unhelpful) messages to trick and entertain fellow players in their favorite games.PtDE Except, sorry.
