If there’s one thing the World War Z game franchise is known for, it’s throwing hordes of zombies at them. As we launch World War Z: Aftermath’s long-awaited Horde Mode XL update, we kept that design philosophy in mind.
Horde Mode XL, which launches tomorrow, is a new game mode that harnesses the power of the PlayStation 5 to bring more bloodthirsty zombies to the screen at once than ever before, including Horde Mode Z.
In the new mode, you and your friends will find yourself on a new map where you must protect a civilian camp located inside a shopping mall.
The mall has three connected gameplay areas, each a separate front line under attack by hordes of zombies trying to reach civilians.
- Restaurant area: swarm attack from temple and village
- Riverside Area: Swarm Attack from City
- Construction area: swarm attack from factory
The rules are simple: survive as long as possible and prevent zombies from reaching civilians.
The main difference in the new mode is that some Zombie Waves are ‘XL Waves’, with an amazing amount of zombies on screen at once, all coming for you and your team.
To survive this onslaught, you’ll need to stock up on supplies to mount your fortified defenses. These are unique events that are triggered at the start of an XL wave if you have enough supplies in stock and kill a large number of zombies at once.
The more supplies you stockpile, the more deadly your enhanced defenses will be. There are missiles in the restaurant area, jet fighters in the riverside area, and explosive gas in the construction site.
Horde Mode XL has more new gameplay features and surprises that you can’t wait to dive in and discover.
New weapon progression system
Horde Mode XL isn’t the only feature launching with this update. The rest of the update includes a new weapon progression system, available to both PS4 and PS5 players.
In the new system, skins are not tied to specific weapon stats. Leveling up a gun requires experience and supplies, but leveling up is done through linear stat progression (and unlocking various bonuses), and you can now apply any skins to your weapon. rice field.
One of the most significant new features is weapon perk slots that become available as you progress. All firearms have 3 slots into which you can insert a unique set of perks. Rewards are divided into two categories, unique and common, based on their effectiveness. A player can only install 1 unique his perk and his 2 common perks. Perks can affect stats, grant unique gameplay advantages, and overall give you some flexibility when customizing your guns.
We’ve also created a host of new free skins for all guns that can be unlocked through the weapon progression system!
It’s also important for seasoned WWZ: Aftermath players to note that progress will not be erased with this update. For example, if you previously unlocked his 3rd version of the gun, this gun will be brought up to 3rd level in the new weapon progression system. Specs will be the same. All previously unlocked skins are also available.
