Originally released in 2002 and a spin-off of the wildly popular Age of Empires, Age of Mythology is being remastered.Announced during yesterday’s event Age of Empires 25th Anniversary Event (opens in new tab)Age of Mythology Retold enhances the original game’s graphics, tweaks its gameplay, and generally does in Age of Mythology what Definitive Edition did in Age of Empires.
Microsoft is making noise to do something with the Age of Mythology series (opens in new tab) For the last few years, but until now, it was the only Age of Empires game that didn’t have a definitive version of some sort. The original game was released on his Steam in 2014 and (not well liked) New developments in 2016 (opens in new tab)but it took this long for Microsoft’s much-discussed Age of Mythology “possibility” to turn into reality.
That’s also good, because Age of Mythology is a unique entry in the Age of Empires catalog. Rather than drawing (loosely) inspiration from the real-life conflicts and civilizations that inspired Age of Empires, the game battles in the realms of Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythology. Players choose the cabal of major and minor gods to worship, granting them unique technologies, units, abilities, and even special powers that can aid their faction or defeat their enemies. If you’re used to the more down-to-earth nature of Age of Empires, it’s a breath of fresh air.
You may have noticed that this is pretty much all the information we have about Age of Mythology Retold, and most of it is actually information about regular old Age of Mythology. Aside from the announcement that the project is in the works and a trailer for the movie that promises “Heroes Rise” and “Legends Fight”, information about the new definitive edition is extremely scarce.
This is probably because the development is still very early. As such, we can’t expect to hear much more about the game for some time. glad.
