AK-xolotl is the cutest, scariest, and only top-down roguelike shooter featuring an AK-wielding axolotl. Run through the animal kingdom with an arsenal of powerful guns and powerful power-ups, and even build an army of trigger-happy baby Wooperloopers.
After showing off some gameplay in an explosive trailer earlier this year, the team is pleased to showcase more roguelite (or roguerottle as we call it) gameplay elements for the game AK-xolotl.
For these axolotls, the food chain is merely a hint, and the line between prey and predator is easily erased with the AK-47. However, the enemy will not fall without a fight. Especially at the beginning, the numbers and weapons will be inferior.
As the old saying goes, “Whatever actually kills us makes us stronger.” In your quest for revenge and snacks (more on the story later), you will face many difficult enemies. As shown in the trailer, dying is part of the gameplay he loops, and the player must be prepared to die…a lot.
Luckily, our main Wooper Lutle doesn’t have to face all this violence alone. With each run, you can unlock new Axolittles, each with their own traits and skills. With a little love (and food), these axolittles quickly grow into a small band of trigger-happy maniacs eager to mow down their foes.
The trailer shows off some of the unique abilities Axolittle can inherit, from quick self-healing to the ultimate sacrifice of destroying all enemies.
snack
Novice players may appreciate the standard healing ability early on. You’re still learning the ropes and expanding your arsenal, but being able to heal yourself during the first boss fight will be important. Like all abilities, you must deal a certain amount of damage to the enemy before you can use this ability again, so you’ll need to manage and plan your healing.
Summon
More experienced players may tend to embrace the Inner Ravenous Demon, an ability that can summon power-ups from the underworld to make the most of special items. But don’t expect to spam this ability. The more you use it, the longer it takes to charge.

Rotilla
When collecting certain materials from certain biomes, you may want to stomp an enemy to finish it off. In such cases, nothing beats Rotilla’s skill. Do you think wooper loopers with guns are the problem? Challenge yourself towards the giant Wooper Looper. Giant gun!
faith
The powerful “all or nothing” ability “faith” should only be available to the most fierce players. When death is imminent, this type of Wooperlooper can become a Super Saiyan and overcharge its lethal force to destroy everything on screen, including itself. Why would anyone do that? Now, remember the regenerative power of Uber Eats. Every time they burn everything down, your chances of surviving the explosion are slim. A great way to get out of a terrible situation or go out in style.
But wait, there’s more!
Along the way, you can gather ingredients to cook hearty meals for your Axolittles, help them grow, and feed their violent tendencies. Don’t get too attached to the little ones, though. Somewhere in the forbidden corner of the Pond, an ancient evil lurks with offers that are hard to refuse. Let’s just say that survival of the fittest sometimes means making difficult and dark choices…
AK-xolotl is coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this fall.
