the fruit of Last year’s FreeMVC2 Twitter campaign Arcade1UP is Marvel vs. Capcom 2 A replica of the arcade cabinet announced at this year’s EVO convention. The unit is already sold out at most retailers, but Arcade1UP was enough for CBR to take a look at the unit for review.
Released in 2000, Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes It has been hailed by many as one of the greatest fighting games of all time. This highly influential 3v3 fighter of his Capcom and Marvel’s previous partnerships, and follow-up Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds When Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite I might have easily scratched that itch, but they’re still growing back MVC2 today – still Reduced game availability Over the past 20 years, it has become increasingly difficult to do so.
Arcade 1Up cabinets are easy to assemble – if you have the patience
Of course, the danger of buying an Arcade1Up cabinet stems from the fact that you have to assemble it yourself. The packaging is gorgeous, but no one wants to leave this in a box.The packaging continues with the cabinet itself and custom MVC2 riser. Be careful – the box weighs 90 pounds, so you may need to line up a friend to help move it.
Assembling the cabinet was a fairly straightforward process, although it does require some space to assemble. Mount the marquee upside down (I made a silly error where I had to remove the entire side to fix it), or press the joystick correctly on the monitor.
But apart from my silly mistake, assembly was easy. The cabinet itself is a pretty neat piece of assembly, with the user just fiddling with bolts and drilled holes. It’s never perfect. The bottom edge of the side panel is screwed down, giving it a bit more height, but it would ruin the pretty panel art if it caught your eye.
This was my first experience with an Arcade1Up cabinet and I was pleasantly surprised. The final assembled version is much more robust than expected. It’s a bit cramped for me as I’m tall, but it’s not unusable. On the riser it’s tall enough to tower over it, but without the riser it’s the perfect height to sit on a chair.
The real appeal of this obviously lies in the actual design of the cabinet. The aesthetics of Capcom’s arcade cabinets are undeniable, MVC2cabinets always look beautiful. Arcade1Up’s reproduction is very faithful, with beautiful bright side panels and illuminated marquees that make this piece stand out. It’s such a great and eye-catching piece to hang around in the room, so many times I turned it on so I could have Attract mode running in the background while I worked on other tasks.
If you’re looking for the ultimate collection of Capcom and Marvel collaborations, Arcade1Up has put together quite a roster. The line-up will be complemented first by a full series of Capcom-produced Marvel fighters. X-Men: Children of Atom, marvel super heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter When Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super HeroesThis is the definitive collection of arcade ports, all of which play really well. It looks great, but if you’re looking for a more authentic arcade, you can enable Scanline. The only lobby was a small number of players. Marvel vs. Capcom 1I was only able to get into a few games, but the combat was tight and snappy with no noticeable lag affecting my input. Su still holds up today, Impressive roster of characters From Captain America to Ryu, from Cyclops to Sagat.
However, not all are fighting games. It includes ports of two notable SNES games. X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse When Marvel Super Heroes of Gems WarThe most honest thing about these games is that they are a product of their time. How you feel about these games depends on how immersed you are in the mid-90s. Still, as a value addition to an already expensive package, they’re great.
But nobody buys this cabinet for those games. The charm here, the main course that everyone longs for Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of HeroesAnd it plays exactly the way you want it to.From the characters you remember and love to the weirdest characters you forgot were here, they’re all here Marrow was a major X-Men player?). For many of us, our only experience with this game is Homeport, and it’s really nice to be able to play it in all its arcade glory. The feel of the garment is wonderful. I didn’t feel like I was dropping inputs or lagging in matches. The sound was loud and punchy and felt like a real arcade experience.
Currently, price and availability would be a deterrent to picking this up. At the time of this writing, this unit was out of stock on Arcade 1Up’s site. Tracking one down, the $599.99 price tag isn’t for the faint of heart. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 already has something of a learning curve, and the difficulty of taking advantage of the latest port is preventing the most famous and beloved fighting game of all time from having a niche audience. became. It’s a stunning cabinet with a library of prestigious games, but it’s not aimed at modern fighting game fans looking for something to scratch the itch between MCU releases. This is aimed at old-time hardcore fighting game enthusiasts looking for a great collection to show off in their game room.
With that in mind, it’s hard not to recommend this, even if you’re a more casual player. The simple fact is, these are among the best fighting games on the market even by today’s standards And the attention to detail that Arcade 1Up has put into creating this unit has always been present. This is more than a love letter to fighting games. This is the history of a genre that has taken the world by storm, all in his one stunning five-foot package. It’s a crime that these games are as difficult to play as they are now. Our experience of revisiting it through this cabinet led us to one thought: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 After all these years, it still holds up as one of the best fighting efforts on the market, and it’s a pleasure to have a playable version again.
