Doom: The Dark Ages is definitely one of my favourite games from this year, even if it didn’t quite match the dizzying heights of Doom Eternal. But with its latest update, id Software’s action-packed prequel may have taken two thundering steps toward the quality of its predecessor. Update 2 brings one massive new mode to the game, joined by an array of small but significant adjustments to the prequel’s combat system. That big new feature is named the “Ripatorium”, and it’s basically an arena mode that allows you to build your own encounters. The mode comes with a detailed ‘encounter manager’…

Everyone has their favorite Superman, and for many fans of the iconic comic book character, it’s still hard to beat Christopher Reeve’s take on the Man of Steel. The movie legend left his mark on the franchise across four films, and if you want to revisit them, Amazon is releasing a new–and exclusive–Superman 5-Film Steelbook Library Collection on September 2. Preorders for the $130 collector’s set quickly sold out after opening on July 22, but it’s back in stock as of August 10.Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of The Dark Knight Trilogy Steelbook Library Collection. Gradius Origins is a seriously impressive package. Not only does it include six classic shoot ’em up titles — the original Gradius trilogy, two Salamander games, Life Force, and regional variants — but it includes the first brand new Salamander title in nearly 30 years. Salamander is, of course, the spinoff series of the classic Gradius, but it hasn’t received a new title since 1996. Salamander III is unique in that it feels like a perfect union of both IPs in a way nothing before has ever captured, marrying enemy and level types seamlessly. And it features a brilliant final…

9th Dawn Remake is an action RPG developed and published by Valorware. This title packs a punch for one or two players in an expansive open world. Between dungeon crawling and card deck building, you’ll spend many hours on this game before following the main story. This remake comes from 9th Dawn, originally released in 2012. I never played the original, so I can’t compare the two. However, the game’s description offers “a re-written updated story, new and bigger dungeons, and more action-packed content”. I appreciate all this game offers, but 9th Dawn Remake was overwhelming for me. The amount…

On September 30, AOL’s dial-up hold-outs will need to finally move on to another internet service. AOL announced this week that it will be discontinuing its dial-up service next month, which probably isn’t as surprising as the fact that AOL was still offering dial-up in 2025 to begin with.Dial-up usage has plummeted over recent years. AOL had some 1.5 million dial-up users in 2015, but as of 2021 that number was reportedly “in the low thousands.” So, this change probably doesn’t impact many people, but it’s somewhat shocking that dial-up usage has carried on for so long. AOL originally launched…
