laughing, lying, flattering, facing
Episode 7 of Becoming Elizabeth opens at Whitehall Palace, with John Dudley standing by Edward. The problem is that Dudley has some pretty extreme ideas. Elizabeth is made to think about real evil here, such as publicly burning dissenters.
John Dudley’s idea is to ‘make England great again’, and it comes from these extreme ideas. Interestingly, Somerset receives an unexpected letter confirming his release. This is Dudley’s doing, of course, but under the guise of being a ‘good friend’ before, he has other plans to get the new Lord Lord backing in the Council.
On the other hand, Spain (and therefore Guzman) is the least happy with the current plans for Mary’s Protestant wedding. The only thing is that Mary leaves and heads to Spain. Brings Things can get worse and escalate if not addressed quickly.
Edward continues to make big plans to arrange Elizabeth’s next marriage. Prince Frederik of the Danish court is her latest suitor, but when she finds out she is not at all happy. Elizabeth laments her wedding to an illiterate 16-year-old boy. Her mind is clearly elsewhere.
At Framlingham Castle, Mary does not kindly accept her idea of an arranged marriage either. Dudley appears and brandishes his weight, burning her possessions in front of the Spanish ambassador and his men, not to mention pushing the Bishop down the stairs.
Meanwhile, Reid Jane returns to Elizabeth. The latter isn’t exactly warm to the woman, especially when she asks what her wedding night will actually be like: “You’ll bleed and hurt,” Elizabeth says bluntly. . Ultimately, Jane concludes with a frosty “whore” rebuttal.
Elizabeth meets with her sister to discuss an arranged marriage. Mary shrugs her shoulders and claims that this is God’s will and that they are being tested by God.Elizabeth actually agrees with Spain’s idea of leaving England and fleeing to Spain. I agree with you. Unsatisfied, Mary spews a venomous gag at her sister, who tells her that a far more stealthy assassin is at work (which she believes is Elizabeth, given the disdain she’s showing). ).
After this meeting, Elizabeth changed her demeanor and returned. Realizing that she had no choice but to get married, she decided to make the best of the situation. At the Danish ambassador’s residence, Robert flirts with his father, suggesting that he can marry Elizabeth. And what is his reply? A quick blow to the face. So no.
So while Mary forges her own path and leaves, Elizabeth feels left with no choice but to walk through the fire and marry Dane. try to convince her not to go through with
When Elizabeth appears, the entire British Council greets her instead. It turns out that Denmark decided to insult England for the insult of giving up the daughter of Anne Boleyn. Of course, this is in relation to Elizabeth, who whispers in court that she is a whore.
Elizabeth gives an impassioned speech about the horrors of Thomas Seymour. Now, in the middle of this Edwardian cough, clearly. And those coughs go from innocently clearing his throat to coughing up blood and later passing out in his bed.
While this was happening, Mary eventually decided not to leave, retorting, “If England must burn to stop this evil…then I will see it end.”
episode review
The penultimate episode of Becoming Elizabeth may have been delayed by a week, but it’s definitely worth the wait. When Dudley starts throwing his weight around, intense ambitions flare up at the court, but Edward’s final revelation about the court may catch many people unaware of the history of this period off guard.
The entire production of Becoming Elizabeth has been pretty accurate up to this point, and a great deal of attention has been paid to that aspect, along with the costume and set design. , The Starz period drama offers deliciously twisted drama and a fairly accurate depiction of the era that is wonderful to watch.
Mary decided not to leave after all, Elizabeth was caught in the midst of all this, and courtesy of these awful men, her impassioned speech about women put through a meat grinder was powerful and certainly heartbreaking. First reaction is to tell her that she is crying and Elizabeth is forced to stiffen her upper lip to keep her face up. It’s a moment.
Everything here is precariously on the knife edge, but it looks like next week’s finale is going to be a very dramatic affair.
