Blue Prince looks like Knives Out and Cabin in the Woods melded into a video game
- We already have the Blue Prince achievements scanned in
- Game Pass? Yes, day one in Spring 2025
- Genre: Puzzle, Adventure, Mystery, Strategy
A quick introduction to this upcoming Game Pass game, then. In Blue Prince, you’ll find a mansion called Mt. Holly that is backed with a shifting set of rooms. This random element is set to create a unique style of exploration in your quest to try and get to a mysterious ‘Room 46.’
Every time you open a door, you’ll be able to select a new room with new tools. All of these different spaces have different mysteries and puzzles to unfold based on the tools that you’ve been equipping yourself with along the way. You’ll discover bits of history about the manor as you, from a history of blackmail to other nefarious deeds.
Every morning, the floorplan resets in a roguelike fashion. So, you’ll have another chance to get to Room 46, but it certainly won’t be the same way you tried to make it the previous day. The developer was clear in its announcement alongside Abiotic Factor as a day-one game that Blue Prince won’t fit into any single genre — so think adventure, mystery, puzzler, and strategy game combined.
Now, tell me that this strange cocktail of Knives Out mystery set in an old house, Cluedo rooms in the floorplan, and The Cabin in the Woods-style unsettling shifting rooms doesn’t intrigue you a little bit! I just think that the concept holds so much potential. With it coming to Game Pass, it is a relatively cost-free investment which gives us all the more incentive to try it out!
I love some of the details you can see in the trailer, like pulling on a book to reveal a hidden room and a glass frame sliding down softly to trap you. There is just something so satisfying about all these old tropes being pulled into such a unique-sounding concept.
Blue PrinceThe game has to release and deliver the goods, obviously. Given that the response to the demo (currently available on Steam) was resoundingly positive, it seems like it may well live up to expectations. Regardless, I think the ideas that Dogubomb managed to cram into the trailer are convincing enough for me to get very excited and prepare to tease my brain a little.
Besides, I’ve been looking for more of the best indie games on Xbox to scratch the kind of itches that Outer Wilds and The Forgotten City provided! What do you think of the Blue Prince? Excited to get your hands on it? Or, is it just not your thing? Let me know in the comments below, fine TrueAchievements community!
