monster energy chasing monster hunter Because its name contains the word “monster”. The Monster Energy brand, known for sponsoring energy drinks and events across the gaming industry, has launched a trademark battle with Capcom. In fact, this isn’t the only time the company has chased other publishers and developers out for putting the word “monster” in their game name.
Monster Energy made Ubisoft rename the game in the past
As reported by automaton media In Japan, Monster Energy rights holders also filed trademark oppositions against Monster Hunter and Pokémon. The reason is that the brand is confused with them.
All of this sounds very silly and frivolous, but Monster Energy managed to change the game Ubisoft previously known as Gods and Monsters into what is now Immortals Fenyx Rising. The result is therefore very real.
Luckily, the Japanese Patent Office does not have this, stating that “there is no fear of confusion as to the provenance of the product.”
By the same logic, Nintendo and Capcom would argue that it is Monster Energy that is causing the confusion here. Or companies with “energy” in their names might be able to go after them too. Anyway, this doesn’t make me want to drink anything from Monster Energy (not that I want to drink it anyway).
It’s been confirmed that Monster Hunter Rise won’t be releasing physically on PS5 and PS4, and Capcom has released a parody anime for the RE4 remake.
