Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course DLC review: a hell of an encore

There is no game like Cuphead.. Studio MDHR’s passionate project sets it apart from a wide range of 2D action games that astoundingly recreate the aesthetics of cartoons from the 1930s. Its numerous boss battles are cleverly designed and can be seen brilliantly. Even if I threw Cuphead and Mugman into the woodchipper of the game, it meant seeing the same thing 12 times.

It’s actually quite a game change. There are a few bosses that have never been designed with double jumps and dash parries in mind, completely changing the course of the second battle. This is a rare DLC that rethinks base games in such a satisfying way.

Even with Charis’s upgrade, DLC is challenging. There are 6 main bosses, and they are some of the most complex boss battles ever Cuphead.. One of the earliest battles was a jazz-themed match, featuring a Jitterbug bee that fires harmful sound waves from Victrola. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed while getting the hang of these battles. As a result, “simple” mode (returning from the main game) is still benefiting. Playing in Simple means that the fight is less confusing and you can easily digest the pattern before dialing Regular.
