When we started talking about launching Destiny 2 on the Epic Games store, our goal was to make the game more accessible to people around the world, regardless of their preferred platform. But as soon as Bungie and Epic started talking, they realized they were huge fans of each other and it started to snowball. Thus, we have a crossover spanning three games, six characters/outfits, recreated maps, and his three Guardian classes reimagined as Lock’em Socks Jellybeans.
Both studios have embarked on new territory. Destiny 2 has no characters from other games. And while Epic is celebrating welcoming a huge collection of recognizable faces into its universe, none The original Fortnite outfit has appeared in other games…until now.
“When we started talking about who was coming to Destiny 2 from Fortnite, we knew we wanted an iconic, instantly recognizable outfit that was also a fan favorite,” said Bungie’s Director of Strategic Partnerships. Joss Price said. “We came up with the shortlist. They were already on the same page when we went to Epic.”
List reading: Drift, Black Knight, Oblivion.
The teams at Epic and Bungie are big fans of each other’s games, so it’s no surprise that they agreed when it came to choosing outfits. Sleek and streamlined, it’s easy to imagine Oblivion being a hunter. And not only does the long Drift coat match the Warlock silhouette, but it’s also enchanted. Black Knight as Titan? Easy choice.
In a well-established world, it can be difficult to pinpoint why something clicks or sticks out. Luckily, both Destiny 2 and Fortnite have been getting regular updates over the years, and both teams are adept at pinpointing when something will blend seamlessly with the universe.
Destiny 2 Commerce Area Lead Justin Dazet is enthusiastic about the team of artists working at Bungie. “There is something amazing about our artists taking things that might not seem to fit on paper, and approaching them from places we could never have imagined. and I think that’s reflected in the consistency of our releases. Our goal is to keep you from being pulled out of your fantasy.”
There is more than one way to become a Guardian. And although they take many forms and have an infinite variety of styles (#ThreadsOfLight), we share the community’s respect for the Destiny universe and can sense when something feels out of place.
We also share the community’s passion for playing with non-standard elements. Our goal is to find a balance that allows you to be creative in new ways, yet carefully involve things until they become familiar.
Price remembers: We were merging her two universes, but we knew it was possible to stay true to both.
Flying in the opposite direction (probably the Battle Bus), you’ll find three iconic characters from Destiny 2. Warlock Vanguard, Ikora Rey. And the time-traveling Exotic Stranger.
“Like us, Epic Games has really good ideas on how things fit into games and design principles,” said Josh Deeb, art lead at Bungie. says. “The fact that they’re fans of Destiny 2 made it easy for us to stay true to what makes our characters so special. It felt like we spoke the same language.” .”
The team identified features that made each character instantly recognizable and sought to preserve those key aspects.
– Glowing eyes of Zavala, which is a feature of awakened races.
● Ikora’s Face — A characteristic of a Warlock’s intimidating and hard-working personality.
● Exo Stranger’s robotic elements distinguish her from her two biological companions.
In addition to the three Destiny 2 characters debuting in Fortnite, Epic has teamed up with creator team PWR to build entire Destiny 2 maps in Fortnite.
“Javelin-4 is one of the most iconic and well-played maps, and it’s been ported very well,” Price said. “PWR’s team is a big fan of his Destiny, and the maps were playtested extensively until we found a balance that felt right for both games.”
“As a lifelong Bungie fan and an avid Destiny 2 and Fortnite player, it was a great opportunity to work with such a talented team,” said Boomer, Creative Director of Game Development at PWR. Mr Gurney said. “Bringing these two iconic games together in one experience was difficult, but only possible thanks to the passion of everyone involved. This project is one of our most playtested games ever. and it did a great job of tweaking and capturing the spirit of both titles, and I think everyone had fun playing with it. We’re excited for players to experience it live in Fortnite.”
Destiny’s Universe Concept Art Lead, Dima Goryainov, talks about one of the biggest challenges PWR faced in recreating Javelin 4. “PWR has done a great job of finding very creative ways to use the existing Fortnite asset library and creative toolset to look very similar to Destiny 2’s visuals. It looks almost identical to the original Javelin 4. Specifically like Rocket, enough similar parts were creatively utilized to get the overall feel. The look absolutely nailed it in terms of sleek design, density of detail, and lighting.”
By throwing in the party and adding a little extra turmoil to the crossover, Mediatonic made the Fall Guys collab as painless as a pillow fight. The developer of Fall Guys, Mediatonic are all experts in their field and have added new characters to their worlds many times. But for us, this was uncharted territory. I’ve never seen his three classes in Destiny represented as Bumbling Beans. Most people had no idea what it would look like. Our side was a breeze. So, come on:
As if that wasn’t enough, Bungie’s Director of Consumer Products Katie Lennox hinted that both teams are working on it. Everyone about the special squeeze product for fans that will be revealed at a later date! ”

In hindsight, the partnership was a no-brainer. There are many crossovers between communities. People who love playing Fortnite will love Destiny and vice versa. In fact, it was easy to find examples in both studios. Here at Bungie, Dazet can’t start his day without a game of Fall Guys. Destiny 2 Games His director Joe Blackburn loves playing his Fortnite with his family, and Epic chief his creative his officer Donald Mustard says Destiny 2 is his favorite game. One of his in the game says.
Combining fandom with a passion for creativity yields amazing results. Check out the amazing work that comes from both communities. That magical combination was discovered through this collaboration.
“It was our first collaborative game, and it felt like we were in the World Series,” says Deeb. “To stretch the analogy a bit, working in games often feels like you’re in the same league in the sport. So some people might see it as a very competitive landscape. We’re all fans of playing games, so to speak, and it’s been incredibly fun to partner up like this.”
