Here, we detail what you can expect and share some behind-the-scenes thoughts from the Bungie team that worked on creating the Destiny spin of the iconic PlayStation game.
pretty deadly
Season of the Deep introduces three new armor cosmetic sets, one for each Guardian class, inspired by three of the biggest games in PlayStation history. Titans can feel at home with the new Godbane ornament set, inspired by Sony Santa Monica’s God of War. Guerrilla’s Horizon Forbidden West inspired the “Annointed” set for hunters, creating the perfect look for any activity that requires cunning, agility, and no less lethal force . Finally, honor and precision are hallmarks of the Warlock lifestyle, and this is perfectly represented in the “Ancestral” cosmetic set, inspired by Sucker Punch’s open-world masterpiece, Ghost of Tsushima. I’m here. In addition to the decorations, there are also a trio of finishers inspired by the same game. “From Nowhere” (Horizon Zero Dawn), “Whirling Chaos” (God of War) and “Perfect Strike” (Ghost of Tsushima).
“The origin of every armor set starts with the question, ‘What is fantasy?'” said Bungie Art Lead Josh Deeb. “There were some obvious inspirations. [God of War’s] Kratos is a mighty force that leads the way to battle, Aloy [from the Horizon series] A machine hunter who survives in a harsh world, [Ghost of Tsushima’s] Jin combined diligent training with seemingly supernatural fighting abilities. ”
Once the team has defined their fantasy, it’s time to discuss which traits best describe the character and how they can be represented in armor. As Deeb said, each character has something unique to express, and the team has gone to great lengths to bring those details to life.
“first time [concern] It’s a more direct rethinking of costume details, items, and weapons,” said Deeb. “And the less visible side—their personality and presence—is this adornment similar to this character?
Aloy’s influence
“For Aloy, it was about capturing a technology hybrid [and] Handmade, natural materials. We spent a lot of time making sure the details were correct,” Deeb said. “This included building a version of Focus on the helmet, combining his two different styles of armor plating from each game, and even the stitching of the Hunter’s cloak to how Aloy’s tribal clothing was made. It went down to making sure it was accurate.”
“It’s always a challenge to bring two very visually defined and powerful IPs together into one striking collaborative design. The latter has a more natural and primitive feel to it.The key is to find commonalities between both projects. What really made this costume design successful was finding the key points where the visual worlds overlap and The idea was to use them as ‘visual anchors’ to integrate the unique, organic feel of Horizon’s materials into the world of Destiny. In this case, it’s the sci-fi elements that overlap, such as the mechanical plating of various Horizon outfits and the holographic effects of Aloy’s focus device. And of course, the hunter is a perfect match for Nora’s themed outfit. ”

Craftsmanship of Kratos
“In the case of Kratos, it would have been careless not to put his iconic tattoos at the heart of the design,” Deeb said. “More importantly, it was about embodying the character’s strength and power. Of course, the helmet design may reflect the beard.”
“Throughout the entire God of War series, from the first game to the latest, Kratos has always incorporated highly recognizable elements into his designs, such as tattoos and weapons. God of War (2018) and God of War When working on Ragnarök, we were always very careful to maintain the iconic elements that were integral to Kratos’ design, and working with the Destiny team has been very fulfilling because these Because you can see how the elements of Destiny have been transformed and still appear strongly in the fantastical and futuristic realm.Tattoos, Blaze of Chaos and Guardian Shield are integrated with the sci-fi armor to make the world of Destiny At the same time, it is clearly a Spartan ghost.”

gin inspiration
“And thanks to Jin, we had the advantage of being able to use some iconic face masks from the original, which made an immediate and unmistakable impact. We wanted to explore cool combinations of armor sets and build a sci-fi samurai silhouette that felt right for the warrior-scholar Warlock.”
“As a fan of the Destiny series, I was really excited to see a version of Jin’s iconic ghost armor come to this world. You did a great job of fusing it with your own art style that was inspired by art.My favorite part is the combination of the traditional samurai half mask (mempo) and the samurai style tonmage to create one cohesive and unique piece. To make a hard surface mask, they also took the correct thigh armor (haidate) of the time and put their own spin on it, lowering the torso to achieve the signature Warlock silhouette. It turned out to be a great achievement in throwing the practical aesthetics that were popular 800 years ago into the distant conceptual future.”

Aside from the decorations, the Bungie team has teamed up with the team at Insomniac to create new Ratchet & Clank inspired emotes, as well as working with Naughty Dog for two new vehicles and The Last of Us inspired emotes. Developed accessories. Ghostly shells, ships, and sparrows are available, each plagued by the cordyceps fungus that drives the game’s famous story. “We know that the in-game environment becomes as much a part of the story as the characters and players in the game,” Deeb said of his Cordyceps-infected appearance. “We wanted to take advantage of the mutated fungus’ evocative infectious visuals and let it invade our world.”
Bungie artist Ben Platnick said translating The Last of Us’ gritty, realistic art style into Destiny’s optimistic sci-fi style was a fun challenge for the team. “The solution there is to combine the way we did Spore-like VFX in Destiny, such as the Egregor from Haunted Leviathan, with the movement and color patterns we see in The Last of Us, to create the best The goal was to create a result that felt like the home of both universes. ”
“When the Destiny 2 team approached us with the prospect of introducing The Last of Us next season, we were very excited about the opportunity. Known as a very human experience, Destiny 2 offers players an epic sci-fi world with elements of fantasy and mythology, and playing in that sandbox was a very special experience for us. It was unique and exciting and we couldn’t miss it.When the team showed us concept art of a fungal cordyceps design on top of Destiny’s ship, sparrow and ghost inorganic materials, the idea was It made a lot of sense: The juxtaposition of organic and inorganic materials felt like a harmonious approach to bringing The Last of Us-inspired design to their world. We worked closely with the Bungie team to help with how certain Cordyceps designs grow from large central veins and vine edge fans that mix with small fungal tissue clusters. We had to include one additional Easter egg element when placing the design on the Ghost shell, and we’ll leave it up to the player to discover.”
