It has not yet been announced what will happen to Animal Spirits, or what each boon will do. It’s possible, but Blizzard hasn’t confirmed it yet.
We know that the first of four animal spirits will be unlocked once the player reaches the town of Skoglen. Blizzard expects players to reach the town around level 15 in the full game. Whenever that happens, the player ends up crossing paths with an animal spirit that is available in some way, and once the player catches the animal his spirit, that particular boon becomes available.
In most cases, players can only have one Animal Spirit Boon active at a time. However, if the player unlocks all four of his spirits, he can activate two boons at the same time.
