Diablo 4’s latest patch bumps it up to version 1.0.4, bringing with it a reasonably sized list of bug fixes and some gameplay tweaks. Those desperate for unique items to wrap up their builds will be pleased to know there is another way to earn them.As patch notes “Helltide chests can now drop unique items.”
If you didn’t know that Helltide chests can’t contain uniques, you’re not alone.Recent Diablo Developer UpdateGeneral Manager Rod Ferguson admitted he didn’t know Uniques weren’t dropping from Helltide Mystery Chests either.
Associate Game Director Joseph Piepiora explained: “When players are looking to farm specific types of uniques in their builds, we want to make sure they need to get those things in order to bring them online. […] Tortured Gifts from Helltide are a great chance to acquire them. ”
Reaching the Nightmare World tier difficulty will unlock the Helltide event, turning part of the map red and telling you that killing bad guys in that particular zone will reward you with anomalous cinders. Anomalous Cinders can be used to open the Tortured Mysterious Gift Chest. This chest may contain sacred items, other equipment, and large amounts of gold. Adding uniques to the loot pool would make Helltide an even more attractive place as a farm, but it’s a strange sentence to read back now.
Previously, the best way to earn unique items was to run the Nightmare Dungeon and defeat the World Boss on Torment difficulty or above. We’ll have to see if Helltides’ drop rate makes it a competitive option.
The other big Diablo 4 news in the developer update concerns Season 1, which apparently adds a Super Gem that allows you to create “stupid new broken builds.” That sounds exciting.
