In our latest interview, we spoke to the Italic Pig team about their gorgeous dinosaur farm game, Paleo Pines.
The beautiful Paleo Pines is coming to Xbox later this year (I’ve been talking to the rest of the TrueAchievements news team about how good this game is for quite some time now), so contact developer Italic Pig for more info. I had a need. Executive Producer Amy Ringman, Game He Director Ninar Sakov, Lead Producer Aisling McElroy, and Lead Artist Abigail Gelston kindly answered all of our dinosaur-related questions.
What are Paleo Pines?
Paleo Pines is a great game about befriending dinosaurs, building a home for them, and having them work with you on your farm.
âDinosaurs were part of my childhood, and they were part of many peopleâs childhoods. Paleo Pines are a celebration of the idyllic summers of childhood, so I thought it would be a perfect fit to grow my own with dinosaurs.â I think, âsays Rusakov.
âWe love dinosaurs and think they are incredibly fascinating creatures. We wanted to make a game that was great,â adds Ringman.
Paleo Pines revolving around its dinosaurs and their abilities is an interesting twist on the farming/ranching genre. âDinosaurs are also useful for exploration. Not only do they have farming skills, but they also have wild skills that help them reach every nook and cranny of the Paleo Pines,â continues Ringman. âWho wouldnât dream of owning a dinosaur horse? Riding a Tyrannosaurus and a Utahraptor to explore the island is a completely different experience and players will spend a lot of time finding their favourites.â
When will Paleo Pines be available?
The release date for Paleo Pines has been decided. This is great for him for two reasons. For one, he’ll have to wait until September 26th to actually start his dinosaur ranch. Second, it means the TrueAchievements news team is forever safe. Called in to join my constant speculation about when the game will launch.
what is that?
A particularly prominent dinosaur in Paleo Pines is the blue and white-striped Lucky. âLucky has been with us since the beginning of the game, and we’ve had this Parasaurolophus since he was a baby,â says McElroy. âLucky has started to outgrow his space and you realize you are moving to Paleo Pines to live on a larger ranch. It turns out that no one has seen a Parasaurolophus.Where are they?
How does Paleo Pines play?
In Paleo Pines, explore the island, discover and befriend new dinosaurs, make them happy in their new homes, restore and decorate the ranch, farm (with the help of dinosaurs) Various activities keep you busy, such as playing , each with their own farming abilities), get to know the townspeople, and complete quests. âWake up to a soft sunrise and stretch out to the fresh air of the ranch. There are dinosaurs to say hello to, crops to tend. Say a greeting.Maybe you will pet her, feed her. There is a lot of watering, so jump on the watering horse and fetch water from a nearby pond, âRusakov begins. increase. “Once you’ve watered all your crops and maybe harvested a few, head to Pebble Plaza. Sell your crops to the local merchant Koran and buy seeds from Grandma Agami. Maybe there’s a quest you want to do next. Or maybe you want to tame a new dinosaur.
“Then let’s go on a wild expedition. The forest is full of berries. And some mushrooms. When you discover new territories, you discover shiny things there. Yes! Dreamstones! New dinosaurs.” I need it so that will be happy to move in with you.Oh, but the days are getting longer and the sun is going down.I’ll grab some more berries and go home.Night. gets closer and you can’t see much in the distance, but a cozy nightlight guides you home.Back at the ranch, one of the dinosaurs sleeps cozy by Dreamstone while the others sleep. Dinosaurs run over to say hello, hop on your Styracosaurus and plow some new fields, let’s pat them to show your appreciation for their hard work. Planting the seeds I bought from Grandma Agami. The last task of the day. It’s time to go to bed.The quest can wait until tomorrow.Goodnight dinosaurs.”
As you explore the island for new dinosaurs, be prepared to earn their trust. âWhen you find a dinosaur that interests you, you have to feed it, play with it, give it treats, and become friends with it. , will help with the farm work,â continues McElroy. âYou can also enjoy exploring the island on a dinosaur horse! Players can explore, breed, and befriend dinosaurs, as well as interact with the people of Paleo Pines town. People can give you quests, sell items, provide information about the island, etc. Players can also participate in various events such as festivals.”
So how exactly will your new dino friend help you with your farm work? “Once you’ve befriended a dinosaur and built a cozy enclosure on your ranch, you’ll have to take care of it and build a relationship to earn its full trust,” McElroy says. âOnce your dinosaurs are happy and trust you, they will start participating in farming. Dinosaurs can perform a variety of tasks such as watering crops, harvesting crops, and clearing debris. has its own set of skills, so you’ll have to experiment to find the best dinosaur for the job.”
Rusakov expands on this slightly by stating: âOh, dinosaurs are very useful on the ranch! They can plow, water and harvest. Assigned to harvest baskets, watering bowls, and seeding bowls, they work independently on the ranch. You can also take your dino into the wilds, where horses can overcome obstacles, climb rocks, wood, and so on. They can help you gather resources, etc. The little helpers can sniff out berries, dandelions, clover and more to attract people’s attention.”
what does the world look like?
The world of Paleo Pines spans biomes such as Veridian Valley, Dapplewood, and Arriacotta, and your dino friends will help you unlock new areas. âThe Paleo Pines is a big island with lots of different areas to explore: valleys, forests and deserts,â Gelston says. “We’ve put a lot of effort into ensuring the environment is incredibly welcoming and lush. All dinosaurs have their favorite areas to enjoy in the wild. I agree with you.â
McElroy added that the rich atmosphere of Paleo Pines extends to all sorts of details. âWe wanted to create a sense of nostalgia, the summer of childhood, when you could explore all day long, forget yourself, forget the sense of time, but still be able to go home at any moment. The feeling of exploring each area goes beyond the visuals, we wanted the player to feel immersed, for example, when entering a canyon, there is a unique echo, and the soothing sounds of the forest change depending on the weather. You will find that you do.â
The idea of ââchildhood nostalgia is also expressed through the game’s beautiful art style. “We wanted to create a visually appealing, nostalgic game. Paleo Pines Art His style is inspired by children’s books with a bright and colorful palette,” explains Gelston. To do. âOur dinosaurs are stocky and soft and much cuter than the dinosaurs we are used to seeing. We consulted academics to get their input on the design.â
Rusakov said the team started with former creative director Jordan Bradley’s concept art and “evolved from there,” adding, “When I joined the team, Animal Crossing was a key inspiration for this game. But the 3D environment art wasn’t really a good fit for me, because in Paleo Pines you’re immersed in the world through a third-person perspective, unlike the top-down perspective of Animal Crossing. , returned to the spirit of the game itself, the summer of my childhood, and reimagined the world as a kind of picture-book lens through the English countryside, capturing that feel to free the art of Paleo Pines. Did.”
Any news on Paleo Pines’ achievements yet?
Paleo Pines has yet to come to fruition, but Rusakov has given us an idea of ââwhat to expect. âWe categorized our achievements into different categories and brainstormed with many teammates. We also encouraged friends who pursue achievements to exchange some ideas. As a result, I think we were able to achieve a wide range of results, from story-based to collections.â
If you’ve been watching the Paleo Pines trailer or dev update, you may have noticed that under certain circumstances, rare dinosaur variants can appear in the game. With a large number of dinosaur species already appearing, we can expect achievements associated with catching each type of dinosaur or its special unique variant. âI have to study everything!â Rusakov says, and even gives a hint of some achievements. âWe have some achievements specifically related to befriending dinosaurs, including Ultra Rares, and popping ‘Dinosaur Expert,’ but all dinosaur species must be journaled. That’s how to do it without taking it to the ranch. â
As for how to create an ideal achievement list, Rusakov says: easy achievements. A challenging one that focuses on skill rather than effort. Achievements for completing collections. Achievements that encourage you to experiment with different playstyles or use different features more. And some achievements that will make you laugh. â
What is the Paleo Pines team most excited for players to experience? We’ve put a lot of work into creating a beautiful, believable world and we can’t wait to see how players interact with it. We look forward to meeting the dinosaurs of Paleo Pines, we take great care in designing each of them and we think players will love getting to know them,” said Ringman. say. “Honestly, I can’t wait to meet everyone’s dinosaurs! Their names, their skin colors, who they share their pens with, and their adventures in nature,” Rusakov added.
