I didn’t participate in an exclusive Counter-Strike 2 test, but why not jump into CS:GO for a few nights to get some more playing time and see if Valve’s light is shining brightly on me? detailed (opens in new tab) Last week on Twitter, Counter-Strike 2 testers were selected based on a variety of factors, including “recent time played on official Valve servers, trustworthiness, and Steam account health.”
After all, Valve’s definition of “recent” playtime has clear limits. Counter-Strike’s official Twitter broke the news today that he’s brought back his CS:GO player in hopes of a lucky break.
“Idle on CS:GO’s official matchmaking servers does not increase your chances of getting into the CS2 Limited Test,” the tweet reads. “The playtime counted is the playtime before the limited test starts.”

In other words, if you haven’t joined yet, don’t worry.
Harsh but fair. Valve is looking for the most dedicated and hardcore CS veterans to test Counter-Strike 2 inside and out, and I certainly don’t fit the bill. I have logged only 70 hours in his CS:GO, most of which is from his 2013. People have given birth to and nurtured his 4th grade since I last got his CS:GO skin. And if you’re spending 10x my playtime his, you may be disqualified for other reasons, such as having an addiction or cheating record. Or you just had bad luck.
If it makes you feel better, it doesn’t seem like we’re missing out on much. It’s a pseudo-sequel to a live service game similar to Overwatch 2, but instead of new heroes and maps, CS2’s main features are smoky smoke grenades, better servers, and backward skin compatibility. Also, he currently only has one map (Dust 2, you guessed it).
It’s all minor stuff, but if you’ve played enough CS:GO to be plucked by Valve for this test, I bet it feels like a big one.
Still, that doesn’t stop me from wanting to join an exclusive club. Senior Editor and experienced Counter-Striker Rich Stanton has joined.
