We’re coming to follow up on this DQ monster.
Back in May 2021, Square Enix showed off a number of Dragon Quest projects. Most important is the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest XII and Dragon Quest III, the next mainline entries. There was Dragon Quest Treasure, a spin-off that wasn’t at the top of the list of expected games, at least for me. continued to be However, as we get closer to the release of Dragon Quest Treasures, we are gearing up for this possible successor to the Dragon Quest Monsters subseries.
Square Enix is showing off more and more games, and this one seems more ambitious than it first appeared, so my interest is piqued. A certain Eric and Mia end up in another dimension called Draconia and try to collect a lot of treasure while teaming up with a bunch of party member monsters along the way. It seems to focus on exploring cute cartoon landscapes, battling enemies, and deepening your pool of monsters. Instead, it looks like an action RPG combined with a sort of 3D platformer. You can use monsters (up to 3 at a time) to bounce around the environment and use their abilities to find hidden treasures.
Recently, Square Enix began detailing more specific aspects of the game, such as the base-building portion. Get a home base. After unlocking bases early in the game, you can begin to climb the ranks by accumulating treasure and collecting flags of rival gangs to increase your notoriety. can appear at your base or sneak up on you while you explore. Different gangs seem to have their own stories and quirks, and they’re not all bad. Only time will tell how truly nuanced these gangs are, but it’s encouraging to see what’s been highlighted so far.
We were also impressed by a fun Dragon Quest-inspired railway line called the Trans-Draconic Railway. It can be reached. Dragon Quest games aren’t always stone-serious, but the playfulness of the whole game is compelling.
It’s been two months since Dragon Quest Treasures launched on December 9th. I’m getting excited about the deployment of this new Dragon Quest monster. I may still be waiting for news about the Dragon Quest XII or Dragon Quest III remakes, but this playful adventure will satisfy my craving for slime and platypunk.
