E3 2023 was canceled in early March of this year, and this update appears to have canceled the 2024 and 2025 events as well. This information was presented on a slide during the Los Angeles Tourism Board conference.
The Entertainment Software Association released a statement saying that “no final decisions have been made” on next year’s event. At this stage, it is reportedly “in talks” for 2024 and beyond.
Although the event didn’t take place this year, Geoff Keighley’s “Summer Game Fest 2023” event was once again able to fill the void. Cayley’s event originally started in 2020, when he “witnessed a wheel fall off the wagon at E3.”
E3 is currently run by Reed Pop, who said earlier this year that this year’s show “has the sustained momentum needed to perform in a way that showcases the size, strength and influence of the video game industry.” It just didn’t attract attention,” he said.
[Full disclosure: Nintendo Life and its Hookshot Media sister sites are partnered with ReedPop.]
