Since 2022’s dramatic and exciting Starfield gameplay reveal trailer, there’s been little radio silence from Bethesda when it comes to revealing new details about the game.
However, one astute gamer seems to have spotted a Starfield feature that has been hiding in plain sight since the gameplay trailer was released.
Discoveries posted on thread (opens in new tab) It was created when a gamer happened to find on the Starfield subreddit that one frame of the gameplay trailer showed the option to “pickpocket” an NPC.

In an early gameplay footage of the player battling a horde of space pirates inside a dark facility, just before a lone enemy approaches the player and is killed, the pickpocket option flashes for one frame, offering the player a chance. bottom. Press the ‘A’ controller button. Here’s a close up.

After that single frame, the pirates are killed, and the command immediately changes to a much more explicit display of a “transfer” option, indicating that now-dead enemies can be looted.
It really is a moment and you’ll miss it. Gamers’ attention is undoubtedly preoccupied with the shooting action taking place, so it’s easy to see why so many missed this one.
I myself saw the Starfield gameplay trailer. More than once Already, and the discovery of this pickpocket was sailing over my head every time.

Well, surprisingly, a new open-world RPG from Skyrim makers Bethesda (opens in new tab)Fallout 3 (opens in new tab)Fallout 4 (opens in new tab) and Oblivion (opens in new tab), Do you have a pickpocket mechanic? Probably not, as they appear in all these games and often lead to fun and memorable moments.
As PC Gamer writer Christopher Livingston has previously pointed out, stealing a note from an assassin’s butt in Oblivion is one of the best PC gaming moments.
And you’ll never get tired of pickpocketing unsuspecting enemy NPCs with explosives. There is something very absurd about it. Why just shoot the bad guys when you can slip live grenades into your pants?
But now that we’ve seen this discovery, what we really want to know is if pickpocketing in Starfield will be a little more polished and gritty than past Bethesda titles. I hope you’re not given the option to pickpocket someone when you’re in a hurry to cave in. This is exactly what is happening here.
The player crouches, enters the room around a corner, and the enemy—who knows him perfectly— rushing him, his body being riddled with bullets by the player on approach, so he can be pickpocketed by the player at the same time.

Also, better pickpocketing in Starfield than past Bethesda open world RPGs will require a better and more sophisticated stealth system. Again, watching this gameplay trailer shows the player crouching and slowly sneaking around a corner, even though the space pirates have both backs to the blind player. enters the room, both automatically detect him and start attacking.
I don’t really want to read an apparently staged gameplay reveal trailer that will likely drop a year or more before the full game actually releases, but these are valid questions. If we offer a pickpocket feature, we hope it is in sync with the immersion of the gameplay system and tone.
I’m very excited about Starfield, as I’m sure millions of other gamers are, but it’s the immersion and role-playing aspects that appeal most to me. If I could walk up to someone in a space suit and know me perfectly, and pick off oxygen directly from that person, or slip a small nuke into my pants, that sense of immersion would be broken. For the nucleus, it would be pretty interesting.
