It feels like a whole new world of AI is being born before our very eyes. Although there is potential for things like AI-driven NPCs (opens in new tab)There are also plenty of diaper fillers like Square Enix’s AI Tech Preview (opens in new tab) with steam. And while some countries are scrambling to set regulations, (opens in new tab) Because of this new technology, others are adding it to their robot dogs. It’s actually pretty cute.
Spot is Boston Dynamics’ famous robot dog. We’ve seen Spot handle important tasks like protecting Pompeii (opens in new tab) And dance to rock’n’roll (opens in new tab)This isn’t the first time AI has been integrated into one of these little puppies (opens in new tab)but now thanks to the addition of ChatGPT and Google’s text-to-speech, the little guys can talk.
A machine learning engineer named Santiago posted a video of the modified spots. twitter (opens in new tab), showing some of the roads to integrate these new systems.Install ChatGPT so you can see engineers adding specific terms to Spot’s dictionary to get relevant information.[go]It’s not as easy as clicking .
Teams can also be programmed with yes or no gestures. Google’s default voice still leaves a lot to be desired, but a little “yes” and “no” shake could kill me one day, and definitely a little bit more to the robot that kills me. Too cute.
While it looks like a cute gimmick, the addition actually has some useful implementations of Spot, as detailed in Santiago’s thread. These robots are sent on daily missions to collect a lot of data that is difficult to convert into simple information. By integrating ChatGPT, teams can directly ask robots questions about these pre-programmed commands and find answers in real time.
This looks like a perfect example of what these AI tools should be doing. Crunching data is not only a time-consuming task for well-trained humans, but it is also exhausting and tedious, and can lead to potential mistakes.
AI happily sorts through this kind of information in a fraction of the time and presents what the human respondent needs to continue the task. I would love to see more AI used in cool and smart ways like this.
ChatGPT has been integrated into the robot. It was a lot of fun building this! Read below for more info: pic.twitter.com/DRC2AOF0eUApril 25, 2023
