Deathloop Now available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10/11 PC, and Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta). To celebrate its arrival on these platforms, we had the opportunity to speak with the game director of Arkane Lyon Dinga Bakaba and his director of the studio, and discuss the game itself, the evolution since its launch over a year ago, and the diversity in the game. He elaborated on the importance of video game industry.
Deathloop became available on Xbox one year after its initial release. How has the game evolved since its first release?
Since the game’s release, we’ve added a few things. Many fixes including photo modes, accessibility options, and other features worked in collaboration with the virtual photographer community. We also integrated crossplay for matchmaking. This will allow you to find more players, but new weapons, New types of enemies, upgrades to original abilities, some of which are designed for multiplayer, or brand new powers. To keep these things at the heart of the game, for example, you get new powers that have to do certain things. Finally added a kind of epilogue to his one of the endings. This was important to allow things to come full circle and have a more compelling emotional resolution with that particular ending. I can give you a reason!
What’s the feedback from players since the game’s release?
Looking back, the response to the game exceeded our expectations. Before release, we thought this would be a very polarizing title. People either love it or hate it, and all we needed to make us happy was a handful of people who loved our work. In fact, many more people loved it and said good things about it. I’m here.
According to you what Deathloop Individual? What are you particularly proud of?
All in all, we’re very proud to have created a game structure that isn’t linear, unlike the open worlds we’re used to seeing. Our structure was unique, it fit our story and our world, and it was a very risky bet. I’m not sure this structure is applicable to other games. Because it is essentially related to its purpose, its specificity. I can imagine someone taking inspiration from it, but I don’t think we’ll see anything like it anytime soon. I was scared. I had no template to present to my team, so I had to forge my own path, which was always more intense.
At the Pegases 2022 French ceremony, Deathloop won 5 awards and you were named Personality of the Year. how did you feel?
I had already won an award overseas before the award ceremony, but I feel very rewarding to receive such an award from the French industry. We make games with an international perspective, but we are still a French studio. As for the awards that have been given to me personally, let me say that it is easier to get the limelight to talk about what we have done as a team, the result of several years of work by hundreds of people. When I talk about what I have personally done for the industry, it is more difficult. It wasn’t easy to get in or stay in, but I’m glad that I was recognized, not just by me, but by all the people who have a better background than me and who never get the limelight. It’s also an opportunity to inspire new generations and show them that it’s possible.

In his thank you speech, he emphasized the importance of diversity in the video game industry…
Perhaps, as industry players, we need to do more to make sure the next generation doesn’t ask this question. Take a woman’s position in the industry, for example, we’re not at the same point she was 10, 15, or 20 years ago. Things are definitely progressing.for Deathloopevery choice we have made, everything that has allowed this piece to exist, stems from the individuality of each person. This sum of identities, cultures and human experiences allows us to create unique pieces. When you are in a team and have to deal with each other’s sensitivities , helps people watch the same series, listen to the same music, and not find themselves in front of a uniform mass of opinions. The game will probably be no different than a game made by another studio with a similar set up. dishonorable was developed on two continents, with Americans, French and other nationalities spread across two teams. And this dialogue between our different cultures has allowed us to make some interesting choices in this series.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in this industry?
My father had a career in entertainment. It wasn’t easy for him, but I had a concrete example of someone who fought against all odds for his passion and was able to make a living out of it. Still, I was still struggling to break into the video game industry. Even if you can’t find a place here, you should know that if you have to change jobs, studios, or countries, you can find it somewhere else. There is one thing to remember. Every studio, every project, every person is unique. The hardest part is convincing myself that I have a creative family of my own somewhere in this industry that exists and that I will eventually meet. We also need to be sure that we have something to bring, not just catch up. We must tell ourselves that our vision is useful and our voice is useful.

How do you feel about Game Pass as a developer? Deathloop Will it be available on Game Pass when it releases on Xbox?
As a developer, with the cloud, the ability to launch games quickly even on mobile phones is very useful for getting mechanics and taking screenshots and videos to share with your team. Deathloop, My answer is very simple. The reason we got into this industry was to get people to play our game. I’m thrilled to hear that overnight, so many players can enjoy our game at the same time! More people means more opinions and feedback. It can also reach certain areas that are difficult to access because video games are so expensive. For example, I’m thinking of Brazil, where Arkane’s games have a lot of fans. We think a lot about it to make our game more accessible. Also, the percentage of people who do not stick to other people’s opinions, good or bad, will increase. I told the team many times during development that the enemy didn’t care. Like it or not, if people try the game, it’s a win. Having one of our games on Game Pass means we can get feedback from more people over time.
As a gamer, how do you feel about Game Pass? Have you seen any surprises in the catalog recently?
I think it’s a diverse and qualitative offer with big game and original proposals. The main advantage for me is being invited to try games that don’t necessarily require investment. When I was younger, I used to lend games to friends because I didn’t always have enough money to buy them. I’ve always wanted to try things out, and Game Pass is bringing that feeling back. When I finally had enough money to buy my own games, I focused on what I liked best and stopped playing certain types of games altogether. can be rediscovered. You can also catch up on titles you may have missed for some reason. As far as discoveries go, there really are a lot… the latest is power wash simulatorI don’t know what bought this game, even on the advice of a friend, but it’s still very fun and relaxing… There are single player games, multiplayer games and very short titles that can be completed in 4 hours. Some can be completed in 150 hours… Really nice!
Thanks to Dinga Bakaba for taking the time to answer my question. Deathloop Now available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10/11 PC, and Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta).
