It’s a well-known fact that prices are skyrocketing these days. Games have been hit as hard as groceries, rent, and medicine, with base prices steadily above $100 for new AAA releases.
But these price increases seem to affect older games as well. That’s because the developer behind strategy management game His Factorio today announced a price increase for the game, which has been in early access since 2016.
The game now sells for $35, presumably on all platforms, a $5 markup from its previous price (although this has not been confirmed).
For some Factorio players and fans, this price increase was welcome news. “You deserve more” read one reply; Another game called ;worth every penny“. on the r/games subreddit, significantly different responseMultiple commenters have complained about the price hike, pointing out that the game has never been sold because the developer has sworn to never discount. Blog post announcing price increases for 2018which brought the game from $20 to $30.
“As you know, we have a strict no-sell policy. This game will not be sold on Steam or any other platform.”
Factorio is releasing on Switch in October 2022.
“There are some issues with how the Switch ports are displayed and interacted with, but these are either obsessed with the best possible layout of the factory or played to see what the next research tree unlocks. It’s a small problem in an otherwise excellent game that makes you want to keep playing.”
