Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision/Blizzard/King is currently pending in a US court, and part of the deposition has revealed Nintendo’s proposed power level for its next dedicated hardware.
In a deposition as part of an injunction hearing by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said in an email to Nintendo president Toshiro Furukawa that the successor to the Switch would be “8th generation hardware. We are working more closely with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This email was read as an answer to a question regarding whether Call of Duty could be ported to his Switch (or its successor).
“Considering the close ties between previous products on the 8th Gen platform and PS4 and Xbox One, it’s reasonable to think we can create something equally compelling for NG (next-gen) Switch. .” – Bobby Kotick
The FTC is now suing the courts to obtain a restraining order/injunction to prevent Microsoft from closing the $68.7 billion deal to acquire ABK. The deal must be completed by July 31, or it will be renegotiated to prevent Microsoft from paying ABK US$3 billion. ABK was unable to complete the transaction. A full committee hearing is scheduled for August.
