HBO Max revealed first full teaser (opens in new tab) For the upcoming The Last of Us TV show. The roughly two-minute trailer shows a montage of scenes from the show, featuring Pedro her Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones’ Lyanna she may remember as Mormont) as Ellie.
The trailer begins with a shot of Pascal wandering through a survivor’s settlement.lonely and abandoned (opens in new tab)Hank Williams. When the action gets heavy, extra stomps and applause “bwaam bwaam” are added, and like all other serious streaming show trailers, it’s not entirely covered in mournful, distorted vocals. There is none.
Pascal and Bella look great in their respective roles, and everything from costumes to sets manages to convey The Last of Us’ weirdly cozy fall devastation without drowning in straight-up imitation.
The trailer offers a few slanted glances of the Infected without too much showing off, including a classy private reveal of a super-close-up of Clicker’s face.
Other highlights included a glimpse of Nick Offerman holding a shotgun and a fun overhead shot of Joel and Ellie crossing a snowy bridge (I like it I think that’s how it was this bit from fargo (opens in new tab)), and, like in the game’s memorable sequences, several peaks in Joel and Ellie’s riding.
I’m not the biggest guy in The Last of Us, but everything here is pretty solid and has that particular splash of color that I always thought was missing from The Walking Dead. It’s always great to see Pascal in somethingâ âthe guy almost made Wonder Woman 1984 look like.
