Google Stadia shut down its servers less than three months ago, and former Google vice president and Stadia head Phil Harrison appears to have left the company at the same time. Harrison’s resignation has not been formally announced by Google or Harrison himself.
Future plans after Phil Harrison leaves Google
There are no indications as to what Harrison’s future plans will be. He was previously Head of SCE Worldwide Studios, Corporate Vice President of Xbox, and a member of Atari’s Board of Directors, but has also held many positions outside of the games industry. Stadia’s cloud streaming was meant to be the future of gaming by giving players the opportunity to play games without having to purchase the hardware normally required to run them. Microsoft and Sony, previously seen as threats to market share, have joined forces to beef up their cloud gaming offerings and take on Google Stadia, but they didn’t seem to care. It never really took off and the server was permanently shut down on January 18, 2023.
