This is our second title to launch on Xbox and it’s really great to see how much we’ve grown since then. Hexagroove: Tactical DJ It was a great experience at first, but there were a lot of things I wanted to make more accessible and engaging. back beat We designed the interface from the ground up for 4K and designed to be scalable across all members of the Xbox device family. The games we design at Ichigo Ichie are based on mashing up genres and deriving gameplay mechanics from music theory. This was a little overwhelming at times hexa grooveso I worked hard to split the new mechanism back beat throughout the wider part of the game. In fact, more than three-quarters of Maine’s campaigns should still be learning new tricks!
back beat At first glance, it’s a turn-based sokoban puzzle game. You have a band of up to 4 characters and you have to make them all reach the goal within a limited number of turns. Each character moves differently and presents unique challenges. After a few levels we introduce a time mechanic into the mix. You must synchronize each character’s timeline with the others and work together to remove obstacles on the way to the goal. Finally, add four shared resources that need to be managed as they move through space and time. These resources increase or decrease depending on which turn you choose to change direction or interact with the environment. Maximizing your resources will give you a high score. It runs out of resources and goes into a failed state. Luckily, by rewinding each character’s turn individually, you can incrementally improve her solution to the puzzle.
One thing I wanted to add back beat It was a story that will motivate your choices and set the stakes. The setting is suburban Washington DC in 1995, with plenty of calls to the last days of the analog age before the advent of the internet. The story is a tribute to his 90s drama ensembles such as “With Honors,” “The Commitments,” and “School of Rock.” Heroine Watts does her best to keep a band of amateur funk musicians together, fighting all the struggles of co-creation: inflated egos, clashing personality types, and external responsibilities to work and family. There are various characters in each main band, so I hope you can find one that resonates with you.
If you’re a fan of puzzle games, turn-based strategies, and story-rich retro games, you’ll love it, and there’s plenty of new features to discover.Get started with a free demo of back beat Enjoy funky fun!
