generation zero has been out for over three years, and there’s still a lot going on in this game. We love this game and its world, and we have no shortage of ideas for new features we’d like to add to make the game even better.
This article describes the major updates added in the last year. We hope you enjoy what we have been working on.
of generation zero Set in 1980s Sweden, explore the idyllic island of Östertörn. In this beautiful environment, hostile machines roam the landscape and almost all humans seem to be gone. As you traverse the island, uncover what’s happening in Östertörn and do what you can to fight back against the overwhelming machines.
As of this year, FNIX machines are no longer the only threat in Östertörn. His three machines of the new faction have found their way to the Östertörn coast. They attack both existing machines and humans who dare to cross their paths.
Little lynx rolls in herds, big wolves patrol the fields, and in the sky we see our first flying machine, the Firebird. Fire, gas, bombs and gunshots are everywhere. Traversing the map is more dangerous than ever, but if you think quickly and adapt to the situation, even these new enemies can be defeated.
Along with the new machines, 3 new missions have been added, with many new locations to visit and collectibles to find. All of this helps us discover new machines and why they came to Östertörn.
Over a year ago, we introduced the first version of base building and a repeatable horde mode to defend your base against increasingly threatening waves of enemies.
Additionally, there are now control points in several different regions. You can choose to build your own bases in these unique locations, but be aware that FNIX machines can also build bases there. These procedurally generated FNIX bases are always different, creating and navigating challenging mazes of turrets and traps. However, successfully defeating them will give you not only important resources, but also new building locations.
We have also added various buildings that you can use while designing your base. Want to create an intimidating place with hard concrete and barbed wire? Or do you want to build a disco base with multi-colored lights and unload the machines to your favorite tunes from the jukebox? The choice is yours to protect.
Ever wanted to move around the map faster than the existing bikes? With the addition of a moped and 3 more bikes in the DLC, you can explore Östertörn at top speed. Bikes offer a new experience of traversal, but don’t forget to bring fuel and a repair kit or two! We have several pieces of equipment that allow you to deal with your machine in a variety of ways.
Introducing new players to our game in an immersive and exciting way is very important to us. That’s why we made some improvements at the start of the game. Added his intro movie, new his NPC encounters, and new objectives to the first mission. This expands on the existing narrative, gives a more detailed account of what happened in the first hours of the invasion, and adds a more personal perspective on fighting the machines.
The game has grown a lot this year and the Östertörn experience has expanded in many exciting ways. There are more deadly machines to destroy (or avoid), machines fighting each other at a distance, and his FNIX base keeps popping up every time he turns his back. With these updates, our development team feels Östertörn is more alive than ever. We hope you enjoy the update as much as we do. generation zero Further years to come.
