We’re back with another game review. War God RagnarokAs the sequel to the popular God of War 2018, many fans have been curious to see what happens next in a father and son’s epic journey across Midgard and the nine realms.
For disclosure, I’ve never played a single God of War game series before, as I only ever had a PS1 (and the first series came out on PS2). So this game will be reviewed with fresh eyes. Yes, it’s weird to read a review from someone playing God of War for the first time. But trust me, I thoroughly enjoyed it, hmm?
“But Abel, how do you review a game you’ve never played?” you might askWell, thanks to the countless ‘BOI’ memes online and catching up, it’s good to have some foreknowledge of God of War (2018) EVERY God Kratos Kills at God of War (ft. @The Completionist)I also liked that Santa Monica Studio included a story recap before starting the game. At least we get to know who the key characters are.
It was nice to put together after 5 years
First 9 minutes of the game (no spoilers)
Based on the character’s dialogue, the locations we went to in the previous games are the same, but there are many changes. To start the game, Fimbulwinter has already taken place in Midgard and plays a key role in Norse mythology as it foreshadows the events of Ragnarok. If you have some knowledge of such things, you should have some idea of what to expect from whom.
I played God of War Ragnarok on PS5 and needless to say the graphics are top notch. The attention to detail, such as textures and facial expressions, is conveyed brilliantly, and even Wives looks like a modern AAA game. I’m sure you can even do it.
Thankfully not all areas experience Fimbulwinter
every map is huge
Excellent dynamic between light and shadow
The 9 realms have a lot to explore
Lighting reflections mimic what the eye actually sees very well
Occasionally there is a quiet moment after a series of fights
Another Norse mythology story brought to life in the game
Behind the scenes of creature and character design
Not all locations are covered in ice in Fimbulwinter, and it’s not as open world as its predecessor. But the realm is now big enough for you to explore. Some locations are still inaccessible, but you can always come back later. Broadly speaking, Kratos has more Rage Modes and Shield Forms, Atreus has an expanded skill tree, and more rune, relic, and armor set choices, so he also has more options compared to his predecessor. Preference for almost any playstyle.
When it comes to gameplay mechanics, I have to give credit to Santa Monica Studios for thinking outside the box about challenging battles and puzzles. Even in normal mode (give me balance), I had a hard time beating many of the mini-bosses and main bosses, but this may be due to my unfamiliarity with them. I think you are too. Sure, it’s a hack and slash game, but it requires strategy to defeat certain enemies. Ultimately, you’ll find a playstyle you like thanks to the large number of weapon and armor set stat choices you’re given.
A lot of books to read if you’re looking for a good armor set
weapon equipment

You can see how the combat mechanics work here
As for the puzzles, there are a few that literally took 30 minutes. can actually access accessibility mode and adjust some settings to show tips. For example, setting the environment to white and the hint to bright red saves time.
In addition to the main campaign, you can also veer off course with story-driven “Favours” (side missions). When I was on a mission in Svartalheim, I couldn’t help but explore the huge nearby lake just to see what else there was before I went on. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time looking for accessible treasures and coming back later to unlock more valuable items. can do.
For example, you can set it to highlight what you want and make progress easier
Good thing they integrated accessibility so everyone can play
Of course, the main highlight is none other than the story. As a single-player, story-driven game, I didn’t expect it to be so heartfelt in the end. We had some ideas about the relationship between father and son (Kratos and Atreus), but it taps into their emotions for a very deep and very relatable game. This is very true for Atreus, who grew up to be a naive teenager.
I think many players are frustrated by Atreus’ behavior during the game. Without spoiling too much, he made many questionable decisions and followed his feelings a little too much due to the prophecy foretold at the end of the previous game. , Kratos had to deal with him strictly in Kratos’ fashion.
How do you top your story in God of War 2018?
The relationship between Kratos and Atreus gets more complicated, but players have a heartfelt ending (warning: it might make you cry).
I think everyone can relate to the dynamic and contrasting relationship between Kratos and Atreus, just like in the real world. The game doesn’t just explore their bond, but other complex emotions dealing with grief, loss, trust, and perhaps most importantly, acceptance. Despite being a powerful killing machine that has grown in several scenes, he has also shown vulnerability.
I was very impressed with what Kratos said. There is a saying, paraphrased here: “If an animal is injured, it must stop running or it will bleed too much and die.” Likewise, when we run away from a problem, we carry a heavy burden in our hearts without knowing it’s bleeding, plus the other support his characters (including Thor) have to fulfill It has a role to play and is very well developed.
30% done, 70% left!
At the time of posting, already 5.1 million copies of God of War Ragnarok sold It’s the fastest-selling first-party launch ever for PS5 since its debut on November 9, 2022. As you can see, I love this game and he’s one of the best games available for PS5 (and PS4). Everything you need for a modern single player video game. God-level visuals, excellent character development, heartfelt story, exceptional background music, epic and challenging battles, tough puzzles, expanded gameplay mechanics, much larger maps to explore, and much more. .
This review may seem a little short, but I don’t want to reveal too much, so experience the game for yourself. I finished the story with his 36 hours and still have a lot of side his quests, collections and other mini-boss fights left. For RM299, The replayability of the game makes it worth the time and money spent. Regardless, God of War Ragnarok is truly Game of the Year material. Sorry, but to show my love and appreciation, I will complete it 100%.
