War God Ragnarok It offers almost as many graphics modes as the Norse Gods and Goddesses, as revealed by developer Santa Monica Studios on Twitter Wednesday nightThe PlayStation 5 version offers more options than the PlayStation 4. For the best experience, your PS5 should be connected to your state-of-the-art TV. Fortunately, many Polygon staffers are playing. War God Ragnarok The past few weeks have allowed us to give you a quick idea of how to choose from a wide range of graphic settings while our full technical analysis article is soon to be published.
Let’s start with the PS5 version. There are two graphics modes: “Favor Resolution” (prioritizes image quality over frame rate) and “Favor Performance” (prioritizes frame rate over image quality). There is also another “High Frame Rate Mode” toggle. This is only available when the console is connected to his HDMI 2.1 port and a display with a 120 Hz panel. If your TV also supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), its HDMI 2.1 feature will work automatically. War God Ragnarok As long as you have it enabled in your PS5’s system settings.
Last generation consoles don’t support VRR or HFR, leaving fewer options for PS4. The preferred resolution and preferred performance modes mentioned above are only available when playing on a PlayStation 4 Pro. The PS4 and slim models on sale don’t have any graphics settings.
Here’s a full breakdown of resolutions: War God Ragnarok Uses dynamic resolution scaling to maintain target frame rate in most modes and frame rate for each option.
Preferred performance mode (PS5)
- Standard mode: 1440p-2160p resolution @ locked 60 fps
- High frame rate mode: 1440p @ unlocked 60fps
- HFR mode with VRR enabled: 1440p @ unlocked 60fps
Preferred Resolution Mode (PS5)
- Standard mode: 2160p (Native 4K) @ Rock 30 fps
- HFR mode: 1800p-2160p @ rock 40fps
- HFR mode with VRR enabled: 1800-2160p @ unlocked 40fps
Preferred Performance Mode (PS4 Pro)
- 1080p-1656p @ unlocked 30fps
Preferred Resolution Mode (PS4 Pro)
- 1440p-1656p @ rock 30fps
Standard PS4
Technically, another situation is available, a Sony representative said after contacting Polygon last week. War God Ragnarok On the PS5, backwards compatibility gives you the PS4 Pro’s quality mode resolution (1440p to 1656p), but doubles the performance to a locked 60 fps.
Spent dozens of hours combined on the PS5 version of War God Ragnarok Here at Polygon, we can definitely recommend Favor Performance mode regardless of your TV settings. The responsiveness advantage is undeniable. Performance mode also drops the resolution from native 4K in resolution mode to a minimum of 1440p, but the image quality remains roughly the same. The trade-off here is easy.
PS5’s performance mode is a great way to play in its own right War God Ragnarok, but if you have an HDMI 2.1 display that supports HFR (i.e. 4K/120 Hz input) and VRR, the combination offers a definitive experience. With HFR enabled, the game will run at 1440p, removing the 60 fps cap. VRR eliminates jitter by synchronizing the refresh rate of the display to the frame rate. This allows games to be enjoyed at frame rates typically between 80 and 90 fps.
