Gran Turismo 7 Recently removed from the 2022 FIA Motorsports Games esports category. Many believed this was because Polyphonic was building its own official esports series. However, some current and former professional Gran Turismo players have stated that Polyphony Digital needs to change the current format of esports competitions. It is not realistic for players to build a professional career in the future.
Gran Turismo esports player leaves the tournament
Many Gran Turismo competitors have expressed concern about the future of esports franchises after feeling compelled to abandon their up-and-coming esports career. They cite lack of prize money, ability to attract sponsorship, and other support, especially indifference from event staff. Jalponic (Thank you ResetEra). Very elite tournaments can offer prizes such as TAG Heuer watches and BBS wheels, while smaller tournaments offer very little but a great experience at all costs. You won’t get the support to turn your esports race into a career because you won’t get any prize money.
Sponsorship is also not really an option. Gran Turismo tournaments have rules that prohibit wearing team or sponsor logos during competition. Instead, franchise jerseys, gloves and boots should be worn on stage. Due to the lack of promotional prospects, some Gran Turismo tournaments are struggling to attract sponsors, as are players. Some teams join esports teams, but just give up Gran Turismo because there is no return on investment. As former competitor Florent Pagandet said:
Sure, I love the idea of joining the game franchise I grew up in, but there’s always the saying “do all these efforts and events without spending money.” It may sound greedy, but when we were supposed to be Gran Turismo professional esports players, especially when visibility didn’t come back very much, the lack of money on the line was always done. Keep in mind all efforts.
Esports players in other games can earn thousands of dollars a year, but I don’t think that possibility will soon come to Gran Turismo tournaments. Staff are complaining that they too are not properly compensated and lose “a lot of money” when the tournament is held. So far, the only monetary compensation players have received has been for the equipment needed to participate in online tournaments during a pandemic. Pagandet, who left the esports competition in 2020, strengthened this concept.
There are no short-term suggestions for major or positive changes. This is disappointing because I believe it is very likely to be unleashed. But it’s contained in a small circle of what they want to do / what they’re doing with it. I want to keep hope, but even at the basic level, I don’t think it will be useful without a big refreshment in the esports scene. […] I’m glad it proved wrong.
