Hello Gran Turismo players! The 1.35 update for Gran Turismo 7 will be released today, June 28th at 11pm PDT* / June 29th at 7am BST / 3am JST.
Introduction of 3 new cars
Aston Martin Valkyrie ’21
A uniquely shaped hypercar with F1-derived aerodynamics.
Aston Martin is one of Britain’s best-loved luxury sports car manufacturers. This hypercar, the Valkyrie, is the result of nearly 110 years of experience in the field combined with the racing expertise of F1 constructor Red Bull. The design began with an innovative road car idea conceived by Red Bull Racing designer and aerodynamics expert Adrian Newey. Newey took his proposal to Aston Martin, where he made connections with chief designer Marek Reichmann. In 2016, the project started in earnest as “AM-RB 001”. Developed under the codename AM-RB 001, the car was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show under the official name “Valkyrie”.
The production version of the Valkyrie will be unveiled for the first time in 2021, shaping up as a uniquely shaped hypercar that incorporates F1-derived aerodynamics and Aston Martin’s design language. The high nose is equipped with suspended wings that create powerful downforce through venturi tunnels that run under the body. Between them is a teardrop-shaped cockpit, where the driver and passenger sit with their legs up like in a formula car. Significant weight savings have been made across the carbon fiber body, and even the Aston Martin nose emblem has been reduced to a 70-micron-thick piece of aluminum. This resulted in a vehicle weight of around 1,000 kg and an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1.01 kg/BHP.
Hard-mounted in the rear of the cabin is a Cosworth 6.5L naturally aspirated V12 engine hybrid power unit with KERS (kinetic energy recovery system). With a total system output of 1,140 BHP he puts this car on par with top category racing machines. The Valkyrie was first launched in a limited edition of 150 coupes of his model, which sold out almost immediately despite a price tag of over £2 million. The coupe was followed by the Le Mans-style competition model “AMR Pro” and the open-top “Spyder” model. This top performance is notable as one of the first hypercars to reach the level of LMP1 cars.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR ’95
With improved aerodynamics and cooling performance, the ultimate first wave “Evo” was born.
The Lancer Evolution was launched in September 1992. The Lancer Evolution is a rally-oriented car with Mitsubishi’s mechanism, which was only used in the WRC-grade Galant VR-4, added to the compact body of a commercial saloon. At the heart of this car is the turbocharged 2.0 L DOHC in-line 4-cylinder engine 4G63, which at its debut already produced 246.5 BHP and he 31.5 kgfm of torque. It had overwhelming traction and power on all four wheels and was already much faster than any other model in its class.
In December 1993, one year after its birth, the improved Lancer Evolution II was announced, with maximum power increased to 256.4 BHP. The tires were also changed to 205/60R15, and the wheelbase and tread size were also changed. From around this time, Japanese fans began to call it by the famous nickname “Lan Evo”. Another evolution occurred in January 1995.
In the third generation called Lancer Evolution III, the exterior has been significantly changed to improve aerodynamic performance. By enlarging the opening of the front bumper and enlarging the rear spoiler, we have achieved a powerful appearance as a dedicated competition vehicle. The compression ratio of the 4G63 power unit was increased to 9.0, and the maximum output was improved to 266.3BHP. Minor changes and refinements have also been made to the suspension, significantly improving engine performance and manoeuvrability. At that time, the Lancer base model was about to undergo a full model change, and it was rumored that the Lancer Evo III would actually be the last Lancer.
Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STi ’04
The second-generation Impreza was developed in parallel with the rally specification model.
In November 2002, just one year after the launch of the radical Spec C, the Impreza series had already undergone a facelift. The previous round headlights were loved by many, but proved unpopular in the mass market and were abandoned in favor of the striking new teardrop shaped lights. This time, through joint development with SWRT (Subaru World Rally Team), we have achieved superior aerodynamic characteristics with new know-how. In terms of performance, a twin-scroll turbo system was introduced to improve spool efficiency, and the exhaust system was changed accordingly. The crankshaft, piston, and connecting rod were also strengthened, generating 40.2kgfm, the highest torque in the 2-liter class at the time.
Some manual transmission models were also equipped with a driver-controlled center differential with an automatic mode. Depending on the situation during cornering, the torque distribution between the front and rear of the center differential was automatically distributed, demonstrating a tremendous effect both on the circuit and on winding roads. In June 2004, a model equipped with large-diameter tires appeared. This is in response to requests from motor sports sites such as super endurance endurance races. At this time, the maximum torque also improved to 42.0kgfm. The Impreza was recognized by enthusiasts around the world as a high-performance car representing Japan. In 2003, the STi model began to be exported to the United States, and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution also started exporting, and fierce competition spread beyond national borders.
