diablo 3
Developer: Blizzard
Year: 2012
Diablo 3 gives you a competitive edge by playing with friends or solo climbing the Greater Rift leaderboards. I use Diablo 3 primarily as a form of relaxation, but each season it blows cracks and kills hundreds of demons.
The campaign is fun, but Diablo 3 really shines when you hit the level cap. Once you’ve got enough max-level gear to take down your enemies with ease, you can run through rifts and bounties to destroy anything that gets in your way. It’s satisfying to watch the damage increase as you get more gear and tierset pieces, and you can increase the difficulty by another level or two each time.
You can play Diablo 3 with friends, but it’s always been a solo game for me. I like to go through levels fast, but I don’t like being rushed by other people. I like being able to follow in my footsteps without being left behind when the familiar chime of legendary loot drops rings. I want to be able to take my time and clear the entire map edge to edge when the urge strikes.
The only companions he needs to defeat the demon are his trusty Templar and his strangely pleasant Northern English accent. No matter what class you are in, that person will always be by your side. Dying, I bless him more often than not, but he’s still by my side. Anyway, he’s my go-to companion and partner in a demon-slaying crime.
For me, the Diablo fun is ongoing. I want to loot drops to make my character more powerful, but at the same time I don’t want to lose the excitement of dropping new gear. My interest fades when I get to the point where I have to tweak a character for a small gain. My way of playing Diablo 3 may not be the most efficient, but it’s the best way to enjoy it.
There’s something relaxing about navigating Diablo 3’s map and destroying everything in your path while listening to the soothing classical music of the Diablo soundtrack. No need to think, just mow down the hordes of monsters. You can progress at your own pace, either speeding through levels or completing each level in an orderly manner. Either way, those demons had better watch out – the Nephalem and Northerners are coming for them.
