Developer A44 has pushed the release date of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn to 2024. That means we’ll have to wait until next year to create a flintlock device in a soul-like open world and use it to blow up the gods and their undead legions. This is one year behind his previous release date of “Early 2023” on Steam, Epic Games Store and Game Pass.
debuted in last yearIt wasn’t E3, but at the event, which featured a PC Gaming Show trailer, and Flintlock’s distinctive style got a lot of attention. It’s an action RPG where you’ll tinker with axes, blackpowder weapons, and small gadgets to battle hordes of undead monsters. All this with the help of the mystical powers of strange little fox spirits who are supposedly unreliable. The stage is set in a world where the gods, enraged by mankind’s invention of gunpowder, opened a portal to the afterlife and let a large number of undead invade to exterminate us all. Classic God work, really.
Flintlock will be the second game from A44, which developed 2018 Soul Games Tilbute Ashen. At the time, PC Gamer’s Joe Donnelly called it “a thoughtful, immersive, soul-like piece that doesn’t shy away from its influences” in our review.
PC gamers got a glimpse into the fantastical world behind Flintlock when we spoke with the developer last year. The developers studied the Napoleonic era and used it in their work, but also enhanced the fantasy elements by referencing ancient Mesopotamian mythology.
We spoke with them last September, and the gameplay reveal trailer showed flintlock right between God of War 2018 and Dark Souls. rice field.
“Flintlock blends theatrical, swiveling, and epic cinematic elements with strategic battles that require spatial awareness and trial and error. This team has come a long way since its predecessor, Ashen. I watch as our protagonist, Nor, and his furry companion, Enki, scramble across a beautiful medieval-magical environment dotted with platforms and even brandishing an axe. Instead, it swings down with heavy force, interweaving gun attacks while swinging down from the back to shoot staggering foes. Killing them gives you bullets for your guns, which you can use to kill the villains for extra armor,” said Molly Taylor.
If you’re into fast-paced, open-world Soulslike with difficulty options and guns, put it on your list to watch in 2024.
